REHABILITATION OF HOMELESS
Street Providence picks up men and women from the streets of Goa and houses them in one of the 8 homes across the State.
Initially a Retreat House in Calangute offered their premises to these homeless and abandoned men. In December, 2017 Street Providence was gifted with their first home in Porvorim with a capacity to house 25 people.
Archbishop of Goa and Daman, Rev. Filipe Neri Ferrao noticed the good work being done by STREET PROVIDENCE and their dire need for more homes to house the homeless. He blessed Street Providence with housing in two church premises and three Convents in various villages in Goa.
Presently STREET PROVIDENCE operates through following EIGHT homes in Goa.
- Private residence, Porvorim (2 Homes)
- St. Michael Trust, Assonora.
- Private residence, Guirim
- Sanjoe Niwas, Saligao (FMCK Nuns),
- St. Simon & St. Jude, Batim Church,
- Convent of FMCK Nuns, Cavelossim,
- Old Presentation Convent, Margao.
The Homeless men and women on the streets are picked and after Goa Police verification of their antecedents they are taken to the Government Hospital for a thorough medical check and then housed in one of our Homes.
NIGHT SHELTERS
STREET PROVIDENCE provides night shelter to those who cannot afford a roof above their heads in Goa.
There are many men in the State of Goa who come to work in Goa for a short period of time. Due to the exorbitant cost of renting a room these men eat in eateries and spend the night in Bus Stops, Construction sites, in uncompleted buildings, etc. They bear the brunt of the weather and do their morning ablutions in the open.
We at STREET PROVIDENCE felt the need to provide these men a facility where we could give them a place to sleep in the night, a clean toilet and a nourishing breakfast before they leave for work.
We have opened such a facility in Margao. After due publicity there has been a good response and every night almost 20 to 30 men utilize the shelter.
