ARE APPALLED THAT 5000 KGS OF FRESH EDIBLE FOOD IS THROWN IN BINS ACROSS GOA

6.10.2022. 7 pm IST
Part 3
We at FOOD BANK FOR THE POOR, SANGOLDA, GOA, are appalled that 5000 kgs of fresh edible food is thrown in bins across Goa, due  to the apathy of the Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), Goa, the poor go to bed  hungry while edible food is binned thereby increasing  the wet garbage .
On 18th April, 2022, we wrote to Hon. CM  of Goa about redirecting this excess food to Food Bank for the Poor, Sangolda. He promptly forwarded this letter to the FSSAI Director on 27th April, 2022.
A letter dated 31st May, 2022, from the Director, FSSAI BAMBOLIM , copied to me and marked to 5 corporate/ relevant Association , informs them that FSSAI has launched the SAVE FOOD SHARE FOOD initiative to promote food donation.
Attached here.
Did the FSSAI received a response from the 5 corporate/ associations?  NO
If no response is forthcoming, did they follow it up with a reminder / phone call?  NO
Did the FSSAI make any tangible efforts to ensure food donation is happening?  NO
Is the FSSAI really interested in food donation or is this letter just an eyewash?  Obviously you know the answer.
On one  hand in Goa we have 5000kgs of edible nutritious food being binned while on the other hand are mothers and fathers who are unable to provide their children with 1 nourishing meal daily.
( I am talking 1st 5000 kgs but its daily more than 10000 kgs of good extra food being wasted daily in Goa .)
Why you ask?
Well I also ask the Director,  FSSAI this same question.
Why this apathy when you promised us the following in April, 2022
☆ 1.  Two officers / staff would be deputed in both districts to go around meeting and explaining this initiative.

☆ 2. All those from the food industry especially where bulk food is being wasted would be called together for a talk and they would be explained the initiative.
This initiative was set up BY FSSAI  to save food from being thrown in the garbage .
This Department has a website that proclaims saving of edible food and sharing with the needy.
Hence, it is your job to make the SAVE FOOD SHARE FOOD  programme on paper a reality for the hungry , the impoverished and the malnourished.
All Schemes / initiative/ ideas are well coordinated on paper, meeting are held and NGO's called to attend.
But does any if this translate into edible nourishing food in the bellies of the poor?
The ground reality is that nobody cares about  the poor, neglected,  people with disabilites , street people, etc.
Here is an idea of how food collection  is done by us daily on a small scale last 5 years non stop
Excel sheet also attached of this calculation.
1. Our vehicle visits 3 institutions daily between. 2.30 to 4.30 pm with one driver .
2. Total collected from these 3 institutions is an average of 100 kgs  to 150 kgs of food.
3. 75 % of the food enough to feed 50 families is distributed in that area and the  rest is brought to the Food Bank base.
4. In a month we collect 3750 kgs of food in this 1 trip which provides  close to 11250 meals . This operation costs us
Rs. 45, 000 a month approx
If  we multiply this by 33 such teams :
( 33 teams means 3 institutions per team )
So 33 teams x 3 institutions x 50 kgs food daily = 4950 kgs daily
Per month 4950 kgs food  x 25 days = 1,23 750 kgs. ( 1 kg food is enough for 3 meals)
Monthly a total of 1,23,750 kgs can be collected to feed 371250 meals at the cost of Rs 15 Lakh rupees.
But the benefits far out way this cost as :
☆ 1. 200 persons will be employed as each team requires 6 people to work together i.e.
▪︎1 driver to collect the food
▪︎1 kitchen helper to manage the kitchen
▪︎4 volunteers to serve this food ahead .

☆ 2. Wet garbage will be reduced by 1,23,750 kgs every month.

☆ 3. Minimum salary needs to be paid as 5 hours if work is required daily, 25 days of every month
Food Bank for the Poor, Sangolda has been collecting and redistributing food in a big way based on our budget through donations since the last 5 years.
But our desire is to save every grain of food from finding it's way into the bin.
To the powers that be at FSSAI BAMBOLIM,   FOOD BANK FOR THE POOR SANGOLDA is the only NGO who will work to collect excess food and prevent this mammoth wastage.
FSSAI please  implement the initiative to SAVE FOOD , SHARE FOOD .
And request institutions to pay for the services as we can't afford to collect all this food free and distribute it free
Everyone thinks NGOs are making money .
But look at :
No of jobs being created
Tons of food being saved monthly
More than 1/4 of a million meals fed monthly
And the environment being saved.
And what I write here and attached in the poster is and has been explained to the FSSAI Officials at BAMBOLIM .
So why should all this food be wasted ?
Why is FSSAI not attempting to introduce their own INNIATITVE which is on their web site ?
Why should poor people go to sleep hungry ?
Why should the wet garbage dumps go on piling up .
Please check the actual cost of treating
123750 kgs of wet garbage In a month in a garbage plant ?
And then see the projection costs that we are ready to save this food from reaching the garbage dumps.
Where there is a will, there is a way
See the work , the tons of food being saved,  the no. of meals being served,  the environment being saved and the saving to the government by tons of wet waste not reaching the garbage dumps.
Rest I leave the FSSAI Director and her team to decide the next course of action.
To be continued Part 4.
God bless you

HAS THE SUPPORT OF TWO IMPORTANT OFFICES IN GOA .

4.10.2022. 7Pm IST
Part 2
FOOD BANK FOR THE POOR,  SANGOLDA , GOA has the support of Two Important offices in Goa .
1.  The Governor of Goa , who since the last  6 months  donates 100 freshly cooked meals every week to our Food Bank to be distributed to the homeless. This program which  was initiated in the presence of the FSSAI Director at a function held at The Raj Bhavan goes on till date.
Below is the Link for that function
2. We have installed 10 food bank fridges in different police stations to accept 24*7 extra food which various types of people deposit on these fridges.  Police stations come under the preview of the Home Minister ( That is the CM of Goa ).
If our project was not worthy and unprofessional would these fridges be allowed in Police Stations by THE CM ?
We wrote a letter regarding prevention of food wastage to Hon. Chief Minister who is also the  Home Minister of Goa. He was enthusiastic about it and marked it to Director, FSSAI, Bambolim, with a request to follow up.
The Hon. CM of Goa & Hon.Governor of Goa are concerned about  the hungry and interested in channeling excess edible food to the hungry.
But the irony is that the FSSAI , Bambolim which is the Department dealing with food just doesn't care.
Why ? May I know?
Daily  tons of food is thrown in bins,  our Food Bank is ready to solve the issue, need a little help from FSSAI to set the exercise rolling, but  officials of FSSAI,  BAMBOLIM, GOA,  dont seem to care.
We are trying our best to redirect edible food to the bellies of those that need a nutritious meal.
But our “rage” is now turning to “outrage” due to the ” I dont care” attitude of FSSAI Officials at enabling through their “indifference ” this criminal waste of good food.
Every morning except Sundaybetween 7. 30 am to 8 am, since the last 2 years  our Food Bank team distributes breakfast outside the FSSAI BAMBOLIM office to the poor children whose parents are working on the construction site of the IPHB & for those patients whose relatives are admitted into IPHB.
This outreach project has never been noticed/appreciated by any official from FSSAI . Feel free to verify this fact yourself.
Are the officials of FSSAI even aware of this feeding project right at their door step ?
Can any official of FSSAI BAMBOLIM see the plight of the poor and hungry right at their door step ?
YOU have the power, so please use it to feed the hungry and the malnourished.
YOU have the power, so please  stop tons of wet waste going into the garbage dumps in goa affecting the  Goa environment.
STOP throwing the rule book at NGO's.
STOP procrastinating.
Because we at STREET PROVIDENCE will NOT STOP our crusade till you assist us in collecting all edible  food that is being  thrown out into the garbage.
We will keep up our efforts to see  the officials of FSSAI BAMBOLIM  implement  the SAVE FOOD SHARE FOOD inniatitve which is your own INNIATITVE.
Attached is a letter written to Hon.  CM of Goa and  marked by him to the FSSAI Director Bambolim to consider.
We as an NGO are interested in ending “Hunger” in Goa.
Treat us with respect please.
Cooperate with us.
Help us to help the hungry especially since our FOOD BANK Project is taking care of 4 birds in 1 stroke:
1. Saving tons of good food  daily
2. Feeding thousands of poor people one meal.
3. Saving the environment and Earth from  excess wet garbage
4. Providing employment to 600 plus local people
( will explain in Part 3 which I will post next time).
Please do prayer for wisdom and guidance to all the powers to be at FSSAI BAMBOLIM so that this project of saving food is taken up quickly as the Tourist season is about to kick off .
God bless you all

BRINGS A NEW LEASE OF LIFE TO THIS OLD HOMELESS HOMELESS GOAN MAN BY GETTING HIM OFF THE STREETS

3.10.2022. 7pm IST
GOA POLICE @ PERNEM POLICE STATION brings a new lease of life to this old homeless Goan man by getting him off the streets and into a shelter home .
STEREET PROVIDENCE accepts this old Goan man through Pernem Police station last week.
Mr Agustine was spotted in and around Pernem in a unclean manner .
Goan man but terribly DEAF & freaking CATARACT in both eyes which makes it although difficult for him and the care givers at the moment.
There will be numerous trips to hospitals and doctors to fix his ears and eyes .
Says he is from OLD GOA .
But says has worked manual & odd jobs all his life in Pernem area and staying and living on the foot path of TUEM Village in Pernem Taluka .
Sad state of affairs especially when u r old , blind , deaf and penniless & unwanted as he can't work.
Keeps saying that he used to cut grass and worked in the field.
We can't push him more than this as he really can't hear and he is weak and tired.
Not sure how many days he has been living in that miserable state.
Incase anyone recognizes him please do get in touch with us on whatsapp on 8380097564.
No need to take him back he can stay with us but atleast when he kicks the bucket we can inform his family or relatives .
Too many old Goan people are being abandoned on the streets as cost of living is rising and looking after the old is getting impossible for families who are poor .
We @;Street Providence are ready to provide food clothing shelter medication hospitalization to live a decent and peaceful life  to any no of such poor and homeless people and once they leave this earth we conduct the funeral rites according to their religion,
And it's all free of cost .
Yes we collect donations ( so please understand that ) to run these 8  rehabilitation homes in Goa.
It's very painful and disturbing at times understanding each such homeless life journey.
Life just looks cruel to the old, poor , abandoned,  people with disabilites, hungry,  sick.
But I don't get emotional and I don't get personally involved in their life journey as I can't tell if they are speaking the truth or not.
I am just doing my little part on this journey here on this earth to the best of my capabilities.
It's my availability and not my ability which drives me to do these services where my motivation level is very very high.
You too can play your part by blessings us, praying for us or just forwarding our messages to your near and dear ones.
We operate through whatsapp only on 8380097564 so please try not to call and waste precious time .
Remember we need to find Agustine family .
God bless you all

COLLECTED CLOSE TO 10 TONES ( 10000 kgs ) OF FRESH EDIBLE COOKED FOOD IN THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER 2022 ACROSS GOA

2.10.2022. 8 Pm IST
Part 1
FOOD BANK FOR THE THE POOR , SANGOLDA, GOA collected close to 10 tonnes ( 10000 kgs ) of fresh edible cooked food in the month of September 2022 across Goa through our Food Bank Fridges and distributed to the impoverished.
As Goa's 1st  registered FOOD BANK with a license from FSSAI , Bambolim, we save alot of wet food from being thrown out into the garbage thereby also reducing  wet garbage from reaching the garbage dumps.
Despite our best efforts, a whopping 10,000 kgs ( 10 tonnes) of edible fresh food is thrown into the garbage DAILY  in Goa,
FSSAI Bambolim is aware of this and yet no plan embarked upon to SAVE this food despite it coming directly under their preview.
I have tried my best with the powers that be to prevent this enormous wastage – I wrote a letter to Hon. CM of GOA informing him of this wastage and the dertriment to the environment-  & CM marked this letter to Director of FSSAI Bambolim asking to look into the same .
I have  submitted applications and emails to both the  FSSAI Director & the officer in charge  of SAVE FOOD , FEED FOOD inniatitve which is actually under FSSAI  – NO RESPONSE
Disappointing but we will not give up!
But inspite of no support from FSSAI Bambolim, this is where we got our 10000 kgs food for September2022
☆ Panjim Police station Freezer : 1500 kgs
☆ Mapusa Police Station Freezer : 1000 kgs
☆ Other 8 Police Station Freezers : 1500 kgs
☆ Sangolda CHOGM road Freezer : 1000 kgs
☆ Creamux Bakery , Corlim : 1000 kgs
☆ Colgate Factory , Kundanim : 1500 kgs
☆ Deccan Chemicals factory,  Corlim : 500 kgs
☆ Private caterers who drop food at our shelter homes late at night : 1000 kgs
We also receive daily 2000 parathas from a paratha factory of which 80% is consumables : 1000 kgs.
All figures are authentic and can be verified at any point of time by just following our food van daily.
Here I would like to mention that huge costs are  involved in :
☆ 1. Collecting the food
☆ 2. Transporting to the base
☆ 3. Sorting and checking the food
☆ 4. Sending the good food out to the hungry
☆ 5. Sending the leftovers to the Piggery
And this exercise has been operational
24* 7  since the last 5 years .
If not collected by us surely even these 10 tonnes would find it's way into the garbage dumps.
Not “rocket science” , only empathy needed.
Our mission to “End Hunger ” in Goa is what motivates us to save this food.
Food Freezers are installed in Police Stations across Goa, open 24 *7  & public places in Goa.
We  also accept food from caterers at our shelter homes and this is used to feed the homeless rehabilitated in our 8 shelter homes. In addition, through our volunteers this food is also shared with the hungry in Villages across Goa.
400 +  breakfast & meals packets are purchased and served at two service points :
1.  Outside GMC & IIPHB, Bambolim.
2. Parish of St Diogo Guirim – Sangolda , through SSVP members.
Besides daily 100s of meals are requested by genuine people to be fed to the hungry across Goa and we oblige.
That's not all…………. since the last 3 years, 100's of impoverished families across rural Goa are given dry ration packets worth Rs 1000/- . The cereals and pulses given are purchased from Gadvi Panjim .
Covid 19 both waves our FOOD BANK gave away rs 60 + lacs worth of Dry Ration across Goa .
My BIG DREAM is  to collect  daily  10,000 kgs of excess cooked food across entire Goa and feed 30,000 people through my team  of 400 volunteers .
The lackadaisical attitude of FSSAI, Bambolim is frustrating.
And why this attitude?
Since the  last 5 years we have in place a well  oiled, systematic, registered and well set Food Bank Program and the Government refuses to step up its act  to reduce food dumped in  garbage in Goa .
Their cooperation could well reduce the amount of  wet garbage across Goa by 300 tonnes every month through the SAVE FOOD,  FEED FOOD initiative under FSSAI , CENTRAL GOVERNMENT INITIATIVE.
My urgent plea to  FSAAI Director & her team ——- please take cognizance of this waste and our willingness to collect this food if you will direct/ instruct all Canteens/ Eateries/ Corporates etc to keep aside their extra edible food for us.
By a simple stroke of your pen, you can provide edible food to 30, 000 impoverished persons and reduce wet garbage by 10, 000 kgs.
But please call these stake holders for a meet rather than making me go around introducing this concept which is actually not my job .
I guess the spirit may be willing but the flesh is weak as Director & the team @ FSSAI Bambolim promised me alot of support in this regard but no action yet!
God bless you all

I POST MY AMAZING EXPERIENCE WITH AN IAS OFFICER

27.9.2022  7pm IST
Today I post my  amazing experience with an IAS Officer who through a simple request made by him to the necessary authorities empowered the underprivileged  for life.
This IAS officer is none other than the former health secretary of Goa , Mr Y.V.V.J. RAJASEKHAR, who has now been transferred.
After a person is rescued from the streets , they are admitted into a Government Hospital if needed  before entering the Shelter Home.
Most often, due to their poor health conditions they need to be readmitted  periodically until they achieve optimum health.
But readmission poses a problem as the hospital insisted that an attendant be kept with every resident readmitted
Street Providence has approximately 150 residents and on any given day 5 to 6 residents are admitted in the 4 Government Hospitals across Goa.
Is it possible for us to provide all the 6 sick residents with attendants 24×7?
We tried explaining this to the hospital authorities, to no avail. The policy of “No attendant, no admission ” posed a big problem for us.
Since the past 4 years I personally have been trying to explain this to many many important people who just refused to understand this issue.
One doctor once even told me ” let the homeless rot in the hospital but your request will not be accepted and will not be entertained “.
Unfortunate and sad…..but I did not give up.
I met Mr Y.V.V.J. RAJASEKHAR one day. He  listened to my difficulty, understand the detrimental effect this would have on the health of the homeless and instructed   two Directors from Two departments to implement orders .
Through Mr. Y.V.V.J. RAJASEKHAR's request , the former Director of Directorate of Health Services , Dr Ira  issued an order benefitting our NGO ,  & the homeless abandoned in government hospitals.
Mr Rajasekhar's kind deed impacted  the lives of many many abandoned and sick homeless street people who now could avail of treatment in all government hospitals in Goa.
Many people often ask me how do we manage daily to get off so many sick and homeless people of the streets and from various hospitals?
Well the answer is……we do so due to the concerted efforts of empathic Officers like Mr Rajasekhar.
It is a herculean task  for a small NGO to accept 12 to 15 homeless people from hospitals month after month and this is now possible because of  the support  from the Health Department.
Today alot of government hospitals call us and request us to rehabilitate those persons abandoned in hospitals which we do  willingly.
When we need to re-admitt them , these homeless are taken in without an attendant. Once treated,  we re-admitt into our shelter home.
Today we @ Street Providence are happy to provide care and rehabilitation to many homeless street people and migrants abandoned in hospitals who on discharge have nowhere to go and would just not make it if there is no rehabilitation Home for their recovery.
Usually IAS officers are available to Ministers , MLAs , politicians & Head of Departments / Directors .
If  IAS officers  listen and resolve   requests from genuine NGOs who are working for the interest of the poor in the state as in this case , the homeless once discharged can find their way into our rehabilitation Homes, thereby freeing  the hospital beds for others who are in real need of medical attention.
Kudos to Mr Y.V.V.J. RAJASEKHAR.
Tomorrow we are accepting 4 such homeless street men from district hospital and  its not a big deal to us as we are reassured that incase we can't manage them,  the district hospital will support us in providing medical  care
Looking forward to meeting the New Health Secretary shortly to help  solve orher issues concerning the homeless and the hungry in Goa .
.
Let's all say a small prayer in thanksgiving for good health and long life to Mr Mr Y.V.V.J. RAJASEKHAR in his new assignment.
God bless you all

HAS BEEN ISSUED AN OFFICIAL LICENSE BY THE NORTH GOA COLLECTOR TO RUN A CLINICS/ DAY CARE CENTRE AT SANGOLDA .

25.9.2022  8 pm IST
STREET PROVIDENCE GOA  has been issued an official license by the North Goa Collector to run a clinic / day care centre at SANGOLDA .
From Feb 2022 , under the provision of Clinical Establishment Act 2019 , all clinics  have to be get a Registration Certificate from the respective Collector.
Our application was pending for  a few months due to genuine reasons but the Collector was kind enough to explain the cause of the delay which was rectified and  finally the license was issued on 15.9.22 ,  the same day our 4th Free shelter Home for women was innaugrated at Cavelossim.
Today 25.9.2922 , our Roman Catholic religious leaders at  the church service,  instruct us to be considerate to migrants/ refugees
At Street Providence, 50% of the inmates are migrants from other states who reach Goa for jobs etc but due to many reasons end up sick, abandoned , homeless, this hardship results in them losing their sanity.
One of my MANY DREAMS was  to start a Medical Clinic for these type of people and cater to their health issues.
And today I am glad to see that this  DREAM  has come to pass .
We now have our 1st Clinic
” GAIL & DITOSA MEMORIAL MEDICAL CLINIC ” @ Sangolda and for the last 3 months we have been providing Free  Physiotherapy sessions for the homeless street people in our shelter homes.
This was the same clinic which was innaugrated at the hands of the Social Welfare Minister of Goa , Mr SUBHASH FAL DESAI on 26.8.2022.
We have a male and female Physiotherapist providing their time and services at this Clinic on a daily basis .
Since we now have an official license to run a medical clinic we are keen to provide other medical services in this Clinic and  are looking for doctors who are ready to serve the poor on a weekly basis or bi weekly basis.
We are looking for :
☆ Orthopedician
☆ Gynecologist
☆ Psychiatrist
☆ Counselors
☆ General Physician
And this is the 1st such Clinic.
We are planning two more such clinics in the south of Goa.
Once we get the 3 clinics running I have a bigger DREAM of starting two 10 bedded hospitals each in North & South Goa strictly catering to the poor , homeless and the migrants.
All our services – be the shelter homes, clinics or hospitals will be absolutely FREE of cost to the poor and homeless and migrants .
Attached a picture of our license as well as   pictures of the Physiotherapy sessions held yesterday  where out of the 11 people only 4 are goans, the rest being migrants.
Here I add that all 11 persons are homeless, found on the streets and admitted by the authorities.
Once again I sincerely thank  the North Goa Collector Ms Mamu Hage, who last month gave me 30 min of her precious time and heard out my request , asked me to wait a few days and issued the License to run a clinic .
We @ Street Providence are very particular and organized in doing everything within the preview of the law and that includes acquiring all licenses and permissions in running this small but complicated operations of many many  projects under our name STREET PROVIDENCE despite the paper work being tiring and never ending with many trips for follow up.
But it's worth the trouble just to be on the right side of the law .
Grateful to all!
God bless you so much
Donald Fernandes

RAVI A MIDDLE AGED MAN FROM NAVELIM

23.9.22. 5pm IST
Ravi a middle aged man from Navelim has stayed/ admitted/ lived in government hospitals for the last 4 years, abandoned and alone as he suffered a stroke 4 years ago and can't walk .
Two months ago we received a call from
Mrs Dr Deepti Furtado @  TB Government hospital stating that there is paralyzed man in TB hospital but not having TB and is homeless and having no one, please help .
At 1st since he was bed ridden and paralyzed I tried to ignore this request as to look after such a case is not easy and we are already having many such cases .
But then something started telling me ” have a look at him “.
So I sent my Quepem team ” Mr Akash &
Mr Akshay ” to meet the boy 2 weeks ago .
Totally paralyzed left side.
Ravi was / suffering from fits and used to take medication.
But due to stupidity he started consuming alcohol too .
Resulting in a severe Stroke .
Attached a small 60 sec video and a picture of him . 👇
Married man but wife left him with his two small sons after the stroke and surely will not want him as he is totally bed ridden.
Infact on 13.8.22 , Ravi had made a letter to Fatorda P Station stating that incase he expires in the hospital, his body should be disposed off through the hospital authorities. Copy with me.
Looks like Ravi had given up hope that the World never wanted him.
But that's the same time I was inspired to take a look at this boy by the Holy Spirit of God .
For the last 4 years Ravi has been admitted In :
Gmc
District Hospital
Many health centre across South goa
Back to District Hospital
& finally admitted at TB Hospital .
This is the scenario most of the times when homeless are admitted and recovered and have no place to go .
It's only when a certain doctor will call us then these Homeless will get proper home at our NGO.
And that certain Doctor in this case was Dr Mrs Deepti Furtado from TB Hospital Margao .
It's sad and disappointing at times.
No one takes in such cases except us and that free of cost.
And we are practically taking them every month last few years .
Ravi is not going to be easy to handle as it's really difficult, complicated and tough but we can try to do the little we can to help.
This is where our FREE Physiotherapy centre comes in .
We have many such paralyzed homeless street men & a couple of woman in our homes and Physiotherapy is what helps them to a great extent to recover at times.
Like Ravi I am sure there are many many such homeless people in various Government hospitals and its upon the Dr incharge of that hospital to keep or to discharge.
Discharge means going to a shelter home or just going no where which may be back to the streets,  bus stops,  gardens, etc .
We feel happy and blessed that we are able to help a few of these such homeless people in the last 5 years and counting and the support we receive through our benefactors is what makes these services possible.
Funding / Donations are very important to provide such services where really pathetic and lost cases are Given a second chance to live .
And Ravi is just between the age group of 30 to 35 years .
Please do bless us with your prayers, wishes and your support in many ways which you can .
God bless you so much
Donald Fernandes

GOA POLICE @ FATORDA POLICE STATION RESCUES A HOMELESS LADY AT 12.15 AM

22.9.22. 7 Pm IST
Goa Police @ Fatorda Police Station rescues a homeless lady at 12.15 am this early morning and calls me at 1 am asking if we can help to rehabilitate.
The homeless lady says her name is ” MEMITA BARRETO ” and keeps saying she is from different villages when asked.
Incase anyone recognizes her Please approach the Fatorda Police Station.
PSI – Dindayalnath Redkar calls me sharp 1 am
( & on his tone I know he is disappointed  and out of options ) inquiring if we can take in this lady right now.
He has tried many homes in South Goa and got no response as its too late at night.
I say yes and he gets the paper work and medical examination done.
A few more calls go up and down including a video call at 1 am and I knew for sure the lady is highly depressed and suffering from mental Disabilities which means the police will have to admitt her into IPHB for treatment but that's not going to happen at this hour at 1am .
I know for sure on the call that its going to be numerous trips to IPHB  to get her back  into a proper frame of mind.
I can refuse to take her in and say we are full , its too late , etc and go back to sleep.
But thats not what STREET PROVIDENCE is about.
I call Sr Mariya, FMCK  @ our care giver at 1.30 am informing that the police will be dropping a lady at 3 am , and she Willingly Said ” please bring we will accept “.
LPC Vidhya Sakhalkar & PSI PSI – Dindayalnath Redkar drops the lady by 2.45 am which I was watching on the CCTV on my mobile at 2.45 am .
All our homes are on CCTV and it's about 150 cameras running non stop in all 8 homes Linked to my mobile.
The most IRRITATING & SHOCKING part is that in the last 5 years, we have accepted and are sheltering many such GOAN homeless ladies and no authority or lady activists have ever approached us trying to find out these ladies families.
It's very very strange that only one or two Have been located and taken back by the families.
Families are abandoning their own loved ones : due to old aged,
sickness like mental disabilities,
ladies who are divorced and both sides rejected,
Married women due to no child being born
And so many other reasons.
Today we have 4 such shelter homes for homeless ladies in Goa and we will accept such ladies any time even early morning at 2 am strictly through the police only
It's not that everyday day such requests come this late but when they come we will accept.
Usually maay women shelter homes refuse after 7 pm to open the doors stating many excuses but here Sr Mariya has gone out of her way and disturbed her sleep like me to understand the plight of another homeless woman and open the doors.
It's not easy breaking your deep sleep to take in and co ordinate a homeless woman admission at 3 am .
If you see such genuine homeless women in Goa late night on the streets please call the local police station and tell them to get the lady off the streets to our shelter Homes which are both in North & South Goa .
Support and bless us as we try to eradicate and reduce ” homelessness & hunger in Goa “.
We operate strictly through whstsapp only on 8380097564 so please don't call .
God bless you so much

WE DARE TO DREAM & WE LIVE THAT DREAM .

20.9.22. 7pm IST
WE DARE TO DREAM & We Live That Dream
What DREAM started in  early 2014 and took concrete Shape in Dec 2017 by registering an NGO called STREET PROVIDENCE is today purely due to THE GRACE OF GOD & THE FAVOUR OF GOD .
I am not qualified in any way to run FREE SHELTER HOMES consistently last 5 years, as I have alot of drawbacks and I am work in progress but yet THAT DREAM IS BEING LIVED.
My DREAM was :
☆ Feeding the hungry and we have food banks,
☆ HOMES for the homeless & we have 8 shelters,
☆ Caring for the sick & we have our own Clinic.
Today the biggest DREAM is, ” we run 8 HOMES for the homeless with a capacity of 200 people & WE don't OWN A SINGLE HOME “.
All the homes are RENTED.
Can you image an NGO having a DREAM of running Free Shelter homes for the homeless and not just 1 home and few homeless but today 8 homes both for men & women , enough to hold 200 such homeless and yet not owning a single home ?
And we not Government funded but strictly are working with public donations.
People always understand the running an NGO means :
acquiring assets like land ,
building big buildings and homes ,
owning fancy cars ,
having a fancy office,
But what about the WORK ?
Well our DREAM was more of THE WORK and less of the assets and that's why we don't own any land & building but we are using that same energy to get help to many many homeless people, hungry people and People with mental disabilities.
The DREAM of Shelter homes in Goa is realised and fitted into the system and now the DREAM is to :
*Run FREE medical clinics for the poor & for people with disabilities in Goa focusing primarily on Physiotherapy, in rural Goa,
*Run FREE Dialysis centres for the poor in rural Goa,
*Run 2 FREE hospitals with a capacity of 10 beds each, focusing on Stroke related care in Goa, One in North & one in  South Goa, for the disabled & the homeless,
*Collect 10000 kgs of fresh food which is daily thrown out in Goa & feed 30000 people daily in Goa with focus on those in villages ,
*Start shelter homes & Food Bank fridges outside Goa .
Like I started this message ” V DARE 2 DREAM “.
This Dream of Sheltering the homeless could not be possible without :
♡ The Favour of God ,
♡ My Wife. My small children & My Sister ,
♡ The House Owners / Landlords ,
♡ The Numerous & consistent Benefactors ,
♡ My Trustees & Our Staff,
♡ The Archdiocese of Goa,
The Newly Appointed Cardinal of Goa & Daman,
♡ Numerous Government officials who believed me way back in 2017 , especially Goa Police,
♡ Government of Goa who have never troubled me,
♡ Hundreds of Volunteers who at some point of time supported and worked with me ,
♡ All well wishers and prayer warriors.
During this DREAM :
☆ We gave up 1 rehabilitation home @ Mapusa
☆ We were asked to leave 1 home @ Batim
☆ We were thrown out of 1 home @ Margao .
Also during this DREAM :
One Trustee resigned and two trustees added ,
The entire operation staff left and a new team took over.
But THE DREAM went on .
I learnt to LIVE THE DREAM by believing IN THE WORD OF GOD taught by my old friend ” BJ “.
Come join us IN ANY WAY YOU CAN as we HAVE SHARED our FUTURE DREAMS with you in this POST .
God Bless you All

Attached two sets of Photographs with this post.
Yesterday 15.9 2022  was Sr Fatima Birthday , and Sr is also the Superior General Of FMCK congregation and Sr Fatima  has been the reason , that today our NGO runs 4 free shelter homes for abandoned women.
Over a cup of tea with Sr Fatima approx 5 years ago discussing about homeless street women was how our 1st such shelter home for homeless street women was started and that too in a convent owned by FMCK.
♡♡♡ Thanks to Mrs Deepali Naik. DIRECTOR,  Women & Child Development,  Government of Goa for supporting our shelter homes for the homeless.
Mrs Deepali understands the need for homes to rehabilitate the homeless street women in Goa.
♡♡♡ Also thanks to Police Inspectors :
Mr Filomeno Costa @ Colva P Station &
Mr Tukaram Chavan @ Cuncolim P Station
who attended the innaugration along with
Mrs Auda Viegas., who runs One stop Centre at Margao for women in distress.
This home can comfortably hold 20 ladies and will serve alot of Police stations in South Goa .
Today our NGO has ladies and gents homes for the homeless in both: North & South Goa and help is just a stone throw away.
I sincerely thank our volunteers in South Goa  namely:
☆ Orlando Mesquita ,
☆ John Baptist &
☆ Akash Pednekar
who have agreed to work along with our staff Akshay Dessai in taking care of this Home run by Sr Mariya & her other nuns .
Shelter homes for homeless means ” ENDLESS HOSPITAL TRIPS , especially since most of the homeless women are suffering from mental disabilities “.
A special appreciation to Sr Vandana , Provincial of FMCK & her counselors of nuns for allowing our NGO to use this home at Cavelossim.
If you reading this post reside in Goa and are aware of any homeless women ( or men ) in need of Shelter, food or medication and who is suffering from any sort of mental & physical disabilities please approach the nearest police station and see that the police are involved to get the homeless to our homes which are right across Goa .
Once again Mrs Deepali Madam thanks for all the commitment and support pledged to all our 4 women shelter homes for the homeless and abandoned street women.
God bless you all
