PRESENTS YOU , OUR VOLUNTEER, MRS. SOPHIE FROM MARGAO

3.4.2021  4pm IST
It's HOLY SATURDAY and we present a small appreciation of our volunteer through a 90 sec video. 👇
FOOD BANK FOR THE POOR , SANGOLDA,  GOA   presents you , our volunteer,  Mrs Sophie from Margao, doing her assignment of feeding the homeless street people on the streets of Margao .
☆☆ Sophie and the Food Bank for the Poor,  Sangolda , go back late December 2017 when we started our fridge at The Lar and she was the initial volunteer at that food bank fridge.
During the entire lockdown,  most of the food bank fridges were shut as almost all our fridges are operated by senior citizens.
A quite , committed,  dedicated and ready to move on the streets , is how I can describe Sophie.
I have never seen her get upset nor raise her voice nor argue.
Till the time we had our home running in Margao , we used to have our boys feeding on the streets.
Since we moved our boys out of the margao home,  Sophie has filled the shoes.
Last 4 months Sophie has been feeding daily close to 50 people , 25 poor goans & 25 non goans on the streets.
Must watch the 90 sec video
We have another Volunteer who also feeds in Margao,  but separately.
Sophie prepares the food , packs and moves some by herself and some with her volunteer.
Best part of Sophie is:
▪︎Senior Citizen
▪︎Does not drive nor ride
▪︎Moves either by the city bus or walks.
Sophie also covers up for me when anyone has a donation to be picked in the form of a cheque in the city.
Sophie can also be seen often at the CARMALITE MONESNTRY offering her services when not feeding the homeless.
I appreciate Sophie for taking courage inspite of her age , and the virus looming out there, is committed to feeding daily even with the rise in cases.
Come join us as our volunteer in other cities of Goa incase you have that passion in you just like SOPHIE.
Your support is what makes us feed the homeless street people thorough our volunteers across entire Goa.
Your support is what we require
Support us in whatever way you can.
Donate generously to our NGO.
We offer you 50% exemption under 80G on your donations.

A DESPERATE ELDERLY GOAN MOTHER , BURDENED TO SEE HER EDUCATED SON ON THE STREETS OF MARGAO

2.4.2021  1pm IST
A desperate elderly Goan mother , burdened to see her educated son on the streets of Margao , makes us at Street Providence get help to him and get him off the streets early this morning on
GOOD FRIDAY .
♡♡ ” You are blessed to be given chance to live,
Make use of it and be a blessing just like
what Jesus Christ is to us “- Have a Good Friday.
Few days back , an elderly mother calls me and requests to rehabilitate her son on the streets of Margao.
Yet to meet her.
An educated man who a few years back worked as a pastry chef Commi in a leading 5 star hotel in south Goa , but due to many reasons beyond the mother control was living on the streets .
Mental issues can affect anyone at any time.
Got, Mr John Baptist our volunteer from Margao involved who befriended him and for 7 days his mother would cook food & John would serve him
Today at 6am , inspite of being Good Friday , we left for Margao along with our Volunteer Doctor.
Can u imagine a Doctor leaving his home at 6am to help a homeless man ?
As we reached the place in Margao, the homeless man was not in his regular place.
But natural for us . Darkness tried to keep him away from us .
John and Doctor move on a bike and locate the man after searching for him , locate him in a side lane,  sleeping near an open drain infront of a shop .
John speaks to him.
The man recognizes Prakash .
When Doctor starts speaking to the man , he listens .
Doctor made just 1 statement which was the turning point which made this man agree to get off the streets and come with us .
Doctor checks his BP which is a bit high and does a blood test right on the street.
Attached the pictures and 2 short videos of
3 min each . 👇
This man has been quite aggressive in the past in the vicinity of Margao.
He was picked up by Goa police quite often but due to his aggressive nature difficult to handle and was always seen back on the streets.
According to Doctor , the man will be treated for mental issues as well as detoxification.
But it's a good sign that that We had the Favour Of God to get him of the streets without he being aggressive.
Although we had stopped picking people from Margao & Fatorda area in the last 4 months due to our home being shut by the CONGREGATION,  yet today on GOOD FRIDAY , I decided to forgive and move ahead .
No point I feel in observing Good Friday if I have anger and hurt feeling in my heart .
From today we will accept homeless street people from both MARGAO & FATORDA area if there are such people.
I bless those who trouble me and accuse me, as a result of which the home in Margao got shut.
But i realised I am taking out my disappointment on the homeless from these 2 areas which is wrong.
Rest God will decide and judge.
We have sown lacs of Rupees in the Margao home when we entered and while leaving the home,  we infact kept back a few lacs worth of things back as we were told that the CONGREGATION is starting something.
Last 4 months it's still empty .
While FATORDA & MARGAO have got quite alot of homeless people looking for shelter.
We all had a light breakfast in a restaurant in margao and even took the man into the restaurant and boosted his confidence.
You support to us through your donations both in kind and cheque is what makes us go back to the streets searching for the lost .
Please donate to our NGO generously.
You get 50% rebate under section 80G of the

ACCEPTS INTO OUR HOME a YOUNG GOAN LADY, ABANDONED BY HER NEAR & DEAR ONES

25.3.2021  8pm IST
STREET PROVIDENCE TRUST GOA accepts into our home a young Goan lady, abandoned by her near & dear ones due to many many reasons.
This lady was in hospital for over 2 years and no one was willing to take her home.
Very sad to be in a hospital for such a long time and not knowing when u r going to be out back into the world to start life afresh must be all the more frustrating.
Many letters sent to the family but no success.
Admitted through MO.
We were informed 1 month back by
The Asst Prof of this hospital who is an  Expert on disability whether we can rehabilitate in our home this Goan lady who also is on medication ( for the mind ).
We agreed but paperwork was the issue.
If we would not agree , the lady would be back on the streets and after a few days would be again be admitted in the hospital with a MO.
Happened twice before.
Street to hospital,  again discharged,  again Street and then again admitted.
Once she discontinue the medicines, she acts crazy,  shouts,  moves on the streets etc.
She requires some one to administer her medication daily.
♡♡ Thanks to the Inspector of Mapusa Police Station @ Goa Police,  who understood the plight of this lady and immediately got her family to do the paper work and admitted her into 1 of our shelter homes .
Young lady but , abandoned by her husband due to issues.
Parents are poor and they can't manage her.
Only solution Is a rehabilitation home.
We are blessed that we managed to rehabilitate her in one of our ASSOCIATE HOME where the nuns will look after her.
We have our 2nd ladies home starting soon where close to 20 such ladies from the hospital who are abandoned and on medication for the mind will be looked after.
Your support is very important in our rehabilitation of homeless street women.
Summer is pretty bad and surely the monsoons will be harsh .
If you know such poor , abandoned homeless street Goan woman ( priority) then it's time to help them to get to a proper rehabilitation home and get them back on track.
Your support is what we require
Support us in whatever way you can.
Donate generously to our NGO.
We offer you 50% exemption under 80G on your donations.
Donations only through cheque /NEFT along with your pan card copy .

AN 80 YEAR OLD GOAN MAN, Mr SIMON , FROM MAPUSA

23.3.2021  7pm IST
♡♡ An 80 year old goan man,  Mr Simon , from Mapusa gets us to help this maggot infected homeless , alcoholic man off the streets.
Its Sunday,  21.3.2021 , and Uncle Simon notices Shiva in a very very horrifying state on the streets at 8.30 am
Please watch the video .👇
It will explain how we work on the streets.
Uncle calls me and explains.
I call our volunteer Doctor and  our volunteer from Mapusa , Mr Napolean & we get to the streets.
Shiva is in terrible odour , soiled and having maggots on his leg.
Doctor cleans his wounds & puts a new dressing.
Shiva is also slightly psychiatric as he has been on the streets for months.
Douglas gets Shiva into our Ambulance & is moved to our rehab home.
Doctor prescribed medicines for :
his withdrawal as no alcohol in our home,
his wounds to kill the pain ,
for his mind to cool him down.
Our care givers , clean and bath him and shave his beard and hair as there was alot of lice in it which can spread to our other men as well as bugs .
Today 23rd,  Doctor after his duty, visits Shiva in our home and dresses the wounds after examining Shiva.
Shiva has showed much improvement in just 2 days , &  Dr was able to clear his wound of the maggots using special techniques like gauze soaked in turpentine oil to fush out the maggots.
His wound was free of maggots today , no foul smell .
Dr prevented him from going into withdrawal by detoxifying him .
Antibiotics are working well & going this way  with good nutrition and hygene his wound should heal in few weeks.
The greater problem is to get him off alcohol permanently for which we are giving anticraving drugs and counselling
It's to be noted that Uncle Simon at 80   years, stood for over 3 hours on a Sunday making sure that we got Shiva off the streets.
Uncle Simon has been blessing us from the time we started In May 2017 and whenever a benefactor suggests help to the homeless we always respond.
Inspite of lack of space we agreed to Uncle Simon request.
Uncle Simon , one son is a Priest and I am sure , his son will be happy that his Dad is doing a wonderful service towards the homeless street people in Goa .
If Shiva was unattended for a few more days,  he would have kicked the bucket .

TODAY ACCEPTS 3 PEOPLE INTO OUR HOME AS THEY WERE REALLY IN NEED OF A PLACE TO STAY.

22.3.2021  8pm IST
Imagine you hear of a failed suicide attempt by a family where 1 dies and the others survive.
And the survivors are now homeless , lost
and totally lonely in this world.
Also understand that the survivors might want to start life fresh but the opportunity and that hand is needed to start Afresh .
Would and will any home accept such a case for rehabilitation ?
That too without any charges.
STREET PROVIDENCE TRUST GOA today accepts 3 people into our home as they were really in need of a place to stay.
☆ Case 1
The survivors were today discharged from the hospital and we took them in .
Middle aged , shattered,  frustrated,  dejected,  on medication  and yet wish to go ahead in life .
We were aware that these survivors required shelter almost 1 month ago.
Initially it was difficult to agree to open our doors to the survivors.
But over a period of time a certain factor of guilt & humanity started getting into me.
Thoughts like :
What if you were in their place ?
Costs you nothing to help them.
May be their needs are genuine.
Its Lenten season, why not give it a try.
Summer will kill them or depression will get them.
You have the set up , just think.
You have a Doctor, who is a Psychiatrist and our volunteer,  so what's the issue.
Then my good friend , An Asst Prof of the hospital , explains that such cases actually require rehabilitation which makes me accept the survivors.
Anyway our Volunteer Doctor,  will do the needful from tomorrow and help these survivors.
☆ Case 2
An orphan Goan adult,  on medication and stressed.
A Parish priest from Vasco called me 2 days back requesting if we would help this orphan.
I agreed.
Today the orphan Goan adult got the documentation done with the local police and we accepted the orphan.
The orphan too has psychiatric issues and our Volunteer Doctor will treat the orphan from tomorrow.
Thanks to the Parish Priest for counseling and motivating this adult orphan to get into a rehabilitation home.
All these people are tired,  stressed and desperate to get a place to stay and food to eat.
The heat and hunger is a killer.
Even though we are really tight on space   yet we don't send anyone back provided the admission happens through the police.
If you know of any big home to lease or to
rent on a minimum basis do let us know.
We are also open to renting 4 to 6 bedroom flats or bungalows which can hold about 15 to 20 such old men .
Support us in whatever way you can.
Donate generously to our NGO.
We offer you 50% exemption under 80G on your donations.
Donations only through cheque /NEFT along with your pan card copy .

THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF MEN WE LOOK AFTER IN OUR REHABILITATION HOMES

21.3.2021  7pm IST
STREET PROVIDENCE TRUST GOA through this post explains the different type of men we look after in our rehabilitation homes.
First, all are homeless.
Of these,  80% are from the streets.
And 20 % have families but are abandoned and lonely.
Most of them have serious alcoholic & tobacco issues and  mental issues  due to which they are abondoned and land up on the streets.
We have managed to create an atmosphere in our home where an elderly man gets a son who looks after him and where  younger man gets a father.
This works well for both as all bond  ❤ together, looking after each other .
☆ A.
25 – 30 % are physically disabled ( incapacitated) and need full time support for their day to day life functions like eating ,bathing, changing clothes , cleaning after urinating and defecating , moving about , exercising joints etc
Each one requires 3 to 5  pampers daily.
Also have serious mental issues and require constant medications to be stable.
☆ B.
30 – 40 %   have serious mental and alcohol+ drugs issues
These men have serious mental disabilities due to mental illnesses  like schizophrenia, residual effects of chronic alcohol , drugs use  compounded by long stay on the streets without proper food and medicines.
They are sometimes violent,  aggressive,  lack selfcare, refuse medications and need constant supervision and dedicated nursing care for giving  medications and proper supervised activity
Not in a position to lead a normal,  independent daily life .
☆ C.
2 – 5 % are ones with serious skin issues.
On the streets,  without bath and proper sanitation , brings about all possible skin and terribly bad sickness on the body.
Such men are isolated and treated and fully recover In 30 days .
☆ D.
5 – 10 % are the care givers.
Once terribly into alcohol and drugs , in the depth of agony and pain but once rehabilitated stay back to help others.
They take the responsibility of running the homes on a daily basis.
One is the cook,  another incharge of the medication, others take turns in cleaning  bathing and giving medications.
☆ E.
20 – 30 % just old and lonely and abandoned by their family
These men are on multiple medications for many disease like diabetes  blood pressure , heart ailments etc
But just old and abandoned.
They are unable to do any work  and spend time talking to each other.
Category E is a huge number on the streets which is what is worrying me .
☆ F.
We also house and take care of HOMELESS men suffering from HIV.
More and more are reaching the streets or are put on the streets due to economic issues, property , old age and  children refuse to look after them and literally push them to the streets to beg.
We need a home and a big home to reach out to the above homeless men .
If you share our passion and dream about HUMANITY , then  now is the time to join us .
With the summer already in full steam and monsoon approaching in the next few weeks  we need to get as many as possible of the streets of Goa .
We are ready to rent or lease the homes .
These homes which we require are going to help just the old homeless men who have no place to live.

WE ALSO RE-UNITE THESE HOMELESS PEOPLE WITH THEIR FAMILIES.

16.3 .2021 6pm IST
STREET PROVIDENCE TRUST GOA not only feeds , cleans and rehabilitates homeless street people but we also re unite these homeless people with their families.
♡♡ Thanks to our volunteer Doctor who speaks many languages and takes alot of trouble understanding such homeless people as he is a PHYSIATRIST.
Alot of our homeless men are now feeling better and have started remembering their past , their address , other details.
Vijay was missing last 7 years from Belgaum area.
His brother searched him in many many cities but in vain .
This is how we found Vijay in Dec 2018 👇
You must open this link and read
Thanks to a young girl Miss Jagmeet Kaur from Ponda who in dec 2018 followed up with us to get help to vijay of the streets just outside GMC Bambolim.
Vijay had a big rotten leg , with maggots and worms in it .
Looks like 1 car went over his leg and it got messed up .
He was for months begging and living on the streets and had put on alot of weight .
Got him admitted into the hospital and got that foot amputated and then rehabilitated him into our home.
Once in our home we used to do the dressing of his wound with follow up in the hospital.
Jan 2021 , our Doctor , decided that now Vijay needs to go back home as we had all details .
One of our care givers, was going back to belgaum and agreed to take Vijay home.
The care giver located his address and his brother was full of JOY & HAPPINESS to see him .
Attached a 1 min video of vijay and his brother.👇
Vijay is on medication, and his brother has promised to administer the daily dose to Vijay without fail.
Many people had called me from Oct 2018 to help Vijay get off the streets, but non followed thr procedures.
Thanks to Miss Jagmeet Kaur, who brought new life to Vijay by following the instructions.
♡♡ This is GOENKARPONN ♡♡
Humanity has to be lived and shared not preached and spoken about .
I feel disappointed that these few months we must have missed many such men like Vijay, as we are really running short of space.
We desperately require a very very big home to take in more street men who if not picked up are either kicking the bucket or might just end up in a bigger mess living in pain and misery .
Please DONATE generously towards our NGO .
We offer you 50% , income tax exemption under Section 80G.
Donations in cheque/ NEFT with your pan card copy.

CONGRATULATES OUR 7 GOAN GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS WHO RECENTLY HAVE BEEN PROMOTED TO THE IAS CADRE .

14.3.2021 11am IST
STREET PROVIDENCE TRUST GOA , congratulates our 7 Goan government officials who recently have been promoted to the IAS cadre .
These fine gentleman today have an opportunity to do much for the poorest of the poor including the homeless and hungry
with their current promotion.
☆ Mr. Menino D'Souza
☆ Mr. Narayan Sawant
☆ Mr. Sanjit Rodrigues
☆ Mr. Sanjiv Gadkar
☆ Mr. Yetindra Maralkar
☆ Mr. Prasad Lolayekar
☆ Mr. Michael D'Souza
This post is about my classmate
Mr Michael Dsouza from Khorlim, Mapusa.
Michael is currently holding the post of
Director ( Training ) & Secretary,
Goa Institute of Public Admin & Rural Development.
Old Goa .
Michael D’Souza, considered to be one of the finest officers in the state administration, served as additional secretary (finance) for over a decade, and also as additional secretary to the former chief minister.
Michael has been a natural leader right from his school days at St Britto's, Mapusa.
He later pursued his engineering degree and joined the Civil services where he has served the Government in several crucial departments.
After I finished Std X in 1991 , i never ever met Michael again till July 2017.
A man of simplicity & down to earth nature is what all our Ex St Britto boys ( now men) will vouch for.
He is known for his integrity, honesty, clear vision and helpful nature.
♡♡♡ Congratulations to Shri Michael D'Souza for being promoted to the IAS Cadre.
We at Street Providence are extremely grateful for his support and wish him a bright future.
Surely the Lord is blessing him and his work.
During our early days as an NGO , navigating through the bureaucracy was the need of the hour .
We at Street Providence thank Michael for making two important calls to two Government officials in early 2018.
One call was to a Dysp of Goa Police and the other call was to a Director in the health services.
Today the homeless are rehabilitated with the support of Goa Police and we get fantastic facilities at all Government Hospitals for these homeless people, all because Micahel understood my dream and picked up his phone and put in a good word of recommendation.
Both these calls till date have benefitted almost all the homeless in our homes, and will always be.
How many remember that video of the old Goan man , Mr Francis Lobo ,on the streets of Mumbai asking for help to get to Goa in july 2018 ?
Many are unaware that when Street Providence rescued late Francis Lobo from the streets of Mumbai in 2018, it was Michael Dsouza who supported this rescue.
The CMO”s office was also involved in this rescue of a goan brethren from the streets of Mumbai as those days Goa Assembly was in session .
Happy to mention the support from Michael.
Psalm 5 : 12
♡♡ ” For it is You who
Blesses the righteous man ,
You surround him
With Favour as with a Shield “.♡♡
Once again its double Congratulations to Michael Dsouza.:
▪︎1. from the 1991 batch of St Britto High School, Mapusa

▪︎2. All our Trustees, volunteers, care givers and our homeless street people in our homes @ Street Providence.

LIVING OUTSIDE A HOSPITAL MORTUARY, DESPERATE TO GET HELP INTO REHABILITATION HOME.

12.3.2021 6pm IST
Living outside a hospital mortuary, lonely , sick, unable to walk or stand , served daily breakfast through our MOW, begging outside the hospital at times, desperate to get help into rehabilitation home.
All this was till 30.9.2020. 👇
Watch the videos on that day in the above link 🖕
STREET PROVIDENCE TRUST GOA during the peak of Covid pandemic, rescued Mr Abhijeet all due to the concern and the humanity shown by Miss Jennifer ftom Moira.
Miss Jennifer relative had expired and she had preserved the dead body into the mortuary at this district hospital.
She observed this goan man , average weight 25 kgs , in a very sad state and called me .
We agreed inspite of COVID to get him into our home.
Mr Abhi was very very weak .
The attached video explains it all.
The young lad at 40 years needed a hand and we were determined to walk that extra troublesome mile with him.
He was going through various disappointments in life and took to alcohol to fight his troubles.
So much alcohol that , he had Unstable knee joints due to alcoholic myopathy and neuropathy
And then there was Weakness due to alcohol induced damage to muscle and nerves.
It took him 3 months just to be able to balance himself on his feet .
His food pipe had shrunk and he could not take in much food.
But dealing with so many cases , we knew its just a matter of weeks before he started putting on weight.
Which he did.
Thanks to our DOCTOR who joined as a volunteer in late Dec 2020, Mr Abhi is back to the road of recovery quickly.
Our Doctor being an Ortho cum Physiatrist quickly understood the need and got him a Knee support system with spring and hinges.
Doctor would travel after work quite often to see and take care of Abhi as the dr felt it was his duty to get ABHI to walk .
We also made numerous trips to the neurology dept GMC for various tests and reports .
Numerous expensive medication , injections, ointments etc was given to him.
The muscle and the nerve has been severely damaged which makes him have a staggered walk.
Even to get up from the chair he has issues.
That's where the knee support system comes in and gives him that extra support to get off the chair and walk easily to a great extent .
Jennifer could have walked away and Abhi would be still crawling around or even maimed for life .
Who knows.
But no, Jennifer showed humanity and we provided the relief , care and rehabilitation.
Doctor provided the final touch and counseling.
Today Abhi is an important part of our rehabilitation program.
He is educated and can read and write perfect English.
As part of his rehabilitation plan , Abhi is incharge of 30 sick men both physically & mentally to administer them their daily medicines, 3 times a day.
No heavy work as yet .
Today Abhi must be about 50 kgs in weight .
Cool dude with an intention to learn and go forward.
Understands where he was and where he now is.
Abhi is blessed to have got off the streets during COVID and being able to fight his sickness and his suffering .
We are highly favored to have him in our home .
Little did we realise that 6 months back this man who could barely walk , would be such a blessing to us un our home taking responsibility of the most important aspects regarding rehabilation of homeless street men .
Support us as we go around Goa picking and rehabilitating numerous homeless people daily.
Donate generously to our NGO.
Donations only through cheques/ NEFT .
We offer you 50% Income tax exemption under Section 80G.
