THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF MEN WE LOOK AFTER IN OUR REHABILITATION HOMES

21.3.2021  7pm IST
STREET PROVIDENCE TRUST GOA through this post explains the different type of men we look after in our rehabilitation homes.
First, all are homeless.
Of these,  80% are from the streets.
And 20 % have families but are abandoned and lonely.
Most of them have serious alcoholic & tobacco issues and  mental issues  due to which they are abondoned and land up on the streets.
We have managed to create an atmosphere in our home where an elderly man gets a son who looks after him and where  younger man gets a father.
This works well for both as all bond  ❤ together, looking after each other .
☆ A.
25 – 30 % are physically disabled ( incapacitated) and need full time support for their day to day life functions like eating ,bathing, changing clothes , cleaning after urinating and defecating , moving about , exercising joints etc
Each one requires 3 to 5  pampers daily.
Also have serious mental issues and require constant medications to be stable.
☆ B.
30 – 40 %   have serious mental and alcohol+ drugs issues
These men have serious mental disabilities due to mental illnesses  like schizophrenia, residual effects of chronic alcohol , drugs use  compounded by long stay on the streets without proper food and medicines.
They are sometimes violent,  aggressive,  lack selfcare, refuse medications and need constant supervision and dedicated nursing care for giving  medications and proper supervised activity
Not in a position to lead a normal,  independent daily life .
☆ C.
2 – 5 % are ones with serious skin issues.
On the streets,  without bath and proper sanitation , brings about all possible skin and terribly bad sickness on the body.
Such men are isolated and treated and fully recover In 30 days .
☆ D.
5 – 10 % are the care givers.
Once terribly into alcohol and drugs , in the depth of agony and pain but once rehabilitated stay back to help others.
They take the responsibility of running the homes on a daily basis.
One is the cook,  another incharge of the medication, others take turns in cleaning  bathing and giving medications.
☆ E.
20 – 30 % just old and lonely and abandoned by their family
These men are on multiple medications for many disease like diabetes  blood pressure , heart ailments etc
But just old and abandoned.
They are unable to do any work  and spend time talking to each other.
Category E is a huge number on the streets which is what is worrying me .
☆ F.
We also house and take care of HOMELESS men suffering from HIV.
More and more are reaching the streets or are put on the streets due to economic issues, property , old age and  children refuse to look after them and literally push them to the streets to beg.
We need a home and a big home to reach out to the above homeless men .
If you share our passion and dream about HUMANITY , then  now is the time to join us .
With the summer already in full steam and monsoon approaching in the next few weeks  we need to get as many as possible of the streets of Goa .
We are ready to rent or lease the homes .
These homes which we require are going to help just the old homeless men who have no place to live.
We are also open to renting 4 to 6 bedroom flats or bungalows which can hold about 15 to 20 such old men .
Support us in whatever way you can.

We offer you 50% exemption under 80G on your donations.

WE ALSO RE-UNITE THESE HOMELESS PEOPLE WITH THEIR FAMILIES.

16.3 .2021 6pm IST
STREET PROVIDENCE TRUST GOA not only feeds , cleans and rehabilitates homeless street people but we also re unite these homeless people with their families.
♡♡ Thanks to our volunteer Doctor who speaks many languages and takes alot of trouble understanding such homeless people as he is a PHYSIATRIST.
Alot of our homeless men are now feeling better and have started remembering their past , their address , other details.
Vijay was missing last 7 years from Belgaum area.
His brother searched him in many many cities but in vain .
This is how we found Vijay in Dec 2018 👇
You must open this link and read
Thanks to a young girl Miss Jagmeet Kaur from Ponda who in dec 2018 followed up with us to get help to vijay of the streets just outside GMC Bambolim.
Vijay had a big rotten leg , with maggots and worms in it .
Looks like 1 car went over his leg and it got messed up .
He was for months begging and living on the streets and had put on alot of weight .
Got him admitted into the hospital and got that foot amputated and then rehabilitated him into our home.
Once in our home we used to do the dressing of his wound with follow up in the hospital.
Jan 2021 , our Doctor , decided that now Vijay needs to go back home as we had all details .
One of our care givers, was going back to belgaum and agreed to take Vijay home.
The care giver located his address and his brother was full of JOY & HAPPINESS to see him .
Attached a 1 min video of vijay and his brother.👇
Vijay is on medication, and his brother has promised to administer the daily dose to Vijay without fail.
Many people had called me from Oct 2018 to help Vijay get off the streets, but non followed thr procedures.
Thanks to Miss Jagmeet Kaur, who brought new life to Vijay by following the instructions.
♡♡ This is GOENKARPONN ♡♡
Humanity has to be lived and shared not preached and spoken about .
I feel disappointed that these few months we must have missed many such men like Vijay, as we are really running short of space.
We desperately require a very very big home to take in more street men who if not picked up are either kicking the bucket or might just end up in a bigger mess living in pain and misery .
Please DONATE generously towards our NGO .
We offer you 50% , income tax exemption under Section 80G.
Donations in cheque/ NEFT with your pan card copy.

CONGRATULATES OUR 7 GOAN GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS WHO RECENTLY HAVE BEEN PROMOTED TO THE IAS CADRE .

14.3.2021 11am IST
STREET PROVIDENCE TRUST GOA , congratulates our 7 Goan government officials who recently have been promoted to the IAS cadre .
These fine gentleman today have an opportunity to do much for the poorest of the poor including the homeless and hungry
with their current promotion.
☆ Mr. Menino D'Souza
☆ Mr. Narayan Sawant
☆ Mr. Sanjit Rodrigues
☆ Mr. Sanjiv Gadkar
☆ Mr. Yetindra Maralkar
☆ Mr. Prasad Lolayekar
☆ Mr. Michael D'Souza
This post is about my classmate
Mr Michael Dsouza from Khorlim, Mapusa.
Michael is currently holding the post of
Director ( Training ) & Secretary,
Goa Institute of Public Admin & Rural Development.
Old Goa .
Michael D’Souza, considered to be one of the finest officers in the state administration, served as additional secretary (finance) for over a decade, and also as additional secretary to the former chief minister.
Michael has been a natural leader right from his school days at St Britto's, Mapusa.
He later pursued his engineering degree and joined the Civil services where he has served the Government in several crucial departments.
After I finished Std X in 1991 , i never ever met Michael again till July 2017.
A man of simplicity & down to earth nature is what all our Ex St Britto boys ( now men) will vouch for.
He is known for his integrity, honesty, clear vision and helpful nature.
♡♡♡ Congratulations to Shri Michael D'Souza for being promoted to the IAS Cadre.
We at Street Providence are extremely grateful for his support and wish him a bright future.
Surely the Lord is blessing him and his work.
During our early days as an NGO , navigating through the bureaucracy was the need of the hour .
We at Street Providence thank Michael for making two important calls to two Government officials in early 2018.
One call was to a Dysp of Goa Police and the other call was to a Director in the health services.
Today the homeless are rehabilitated with the support of Goa Police and we get fantastic facilities at all Government Hospitals for these homeless people, all because Micahel understood my dream and picked up his phone and put in a good word of recommendation.
Both these calls till date have benefitted almost all the homeless in our homes, and will always be.
How many remember that video of the old Goan man , Mr Francis Lobo ,on the streets of Mumbai asking for help to get to Goa in july 2018 ?
Many are unaware that when Street Providence rescued late Francis Lobo from the streets of Mumbai in 2018, it was Michael Dsouza who supported this rescue.
The CMO”s office was also involved in this rescue of a goan brethren from the streets of Mumbai as those days Goa Assembly was in session .
Happy to mention the support from Michael.
Psalm 5 : 12
♡♡ ” For it is You who
Blesses the righteous man ,
You surround him
With Favour as with a Shield “.♡♡
Once again its double Congratulations to Michael Dsouza.:
▪︎1. from the 1991 batch of St Britto High School, Mapusa

▪︎2. All our Trustees, volunteers, care givers and our homeless street people in our homes @ Street Providence.

LIVING OUTSIDE A HOSPITAL MORTUARY, DESPERATE TO GET HELP INTO REHABILITATION HOME.

12.3.2021 6pm IST
Living outside a hospital mortuary, lonely , sick, unable to walk or stand , served daily breakfast through our MOW, begging outside the hospital at times, desperate to get help into rehabilitation home.
All this was till 30.9.2020. 👇
Watch the videos on that day in the above link 🖕
STREET PROVIDENCE TRUST GOA during the peak of Covid pandemic, rescued Mr Abhijeet all due to the concern and the humanity shown by Miss Jennifer ftom Moira.
Miss Jennifer relative had expired and she had preserved the dead body into the mortuary at this district hospital.
She observed this goan man , average weight 25 kgs , in a very sad state and called me .
We agreed inspite of COVID to get him into our home.
Mr Abhi was very very weak .
The attached video explains it all.
The young lad at 40 years needed a hand and we were determined to walk that extra troublesome mile with him.
He was going through various disappointments in life and took to alcohol to fight his troubles.
So much alcohol that , he had Unstable knee joints due to alcoholic myopathy and neuropathy
And then there was Weakness due to alcohol induced damage to muscle and nerves.
It took him 3 months just to be able to balance himself on his feet .
His food pipe had shrunk and he could not take in much food.
But dealing with so many cases , we knew its just a matter of weeks before he started putting on weight.
Which he did.
Thanks to our DOCTOR who joined as a volunteer in late Dec 2020, Mr Abhi is back to the road of recovery quickly.
Our Doctor being an Ortho cum Physiatrist quickly understood the need and got him a Knee support system with spring and hinges.
Doctor would travel after work quite often to see and take care of Abhi as the dr felt it was his duty to get ABHI to walk .
We also made numerous trips to the neurology dept GMC for various tests and reports .
Numerous expensive medication , injections, ointments etc was given to him.
The muscle and the nerve has been severely damaged which makes him have a staggered walk.
Even to get up from the chair he has issues.
That's where the knee support system comes in and gives him that extra support to get off the chair and walk easily to a great extent .
Jennifer could have walked away and Abhi would be still crawling around or even maimed for life .
Who knows.
But no, Jennifer showed humanity and we provided the relief , care and rehabilitation.
Doctor provided the final touch and counseling.
Today Abhi is an important part of our rehabilitation program.
He is educated and can read and write perfect English.
As part of his rehabilitation plan , Abhi is incharge of 30 sick men both physically & mentally to administer them their daily medicines, 3 times a day.
No heavy work as yet .
Today Abhi must be about 50 kgs in weight .
Cool dude with an intention to learn and go forward.
Understands where he was and where he now is.
Abhi is blessed to have got off the streets during COVID and being able to fight his sickness and his suffering .
We are highly favored to have him in our home .
Little did we realise that 6 months back this man who could barely walk , would be such a blessing to us un our home taking responsibility of the most important aspects regarding rehabilation of homeless street men .
Support us as we go around Goa picking and rehabilitating numerous homeless people daily.
Donate generously to our NGO.
Donations only through cheques/ NEFT .
We offer you 50% Income tax exemption under Section 80G.

WE ARE NOW GIVING THESE HOMELESS AN IDENTITY BY MAKING THEIR ADHAAR CARDS

10.3.2021 6 pm IST
STREET PROVIDENCE TRUST GOA requires your help to give an identity to the homeless.
Street Providence Goa :
feeds the homeless on the streets,
picks and rehabilitate the old and sick from the streets, hospitals etc .
runs mobile clinic on the streets ,
Etc.
Now we have gone 1 step up .
We are now giving these homeless an identity by making their ADHAR CARDS .
Thanks to an expert on disability , who is
An Asst Prof at IPHB who showed me the way to get an adhar card done for the homeless & the Staff of Planning, Statistics & Evaluation, Porvorim who conducted the 1st such camp today at our home.
And the 1st to get this benefit have been 6 homeless women from our women home .
Attached a few pictures of the Camp
International women Day was on the 8th and today we ran a camp in our home and this Is how, Street Providence sees the homeless women in our home .
Women with identify.
Looking after homeless street people is the biggest , toughest and most complicated services among all sections of homes .
Here no one pays u any fees ,
If you get government support you are blessed ,
Survival is through donations,
Paperwork kills you .
But everyone wants you to admitt and help those on the streets.
If I go back to them and tell them to sign the form, they refuse.
Rules and regulations are many which are at times mind blowing.
Its has been really time consuming and tiring in helping the poor, homeless, marginalized especially with the paperwork and the mentality of those in power who can actually do any job in 1 signature but make you go round and round endlessly.
Always remember POWER IS NOT PERMANENT.
There Is a new rule in the country that any one looking after anyone with any sort of disability ( whether paid or free ) have to register themselves with the Social Welfare Department ( SWD)
To register with SWD , each disable person needs to get a disability certificate from GMC or IPHB.
To get this certificate, the disabled person requires an adhar card .
To make an adhar card , one requires documents.
But homeless people especially with mental disability at times cant even remember their own names, forget documents.
Now we are aware any home can be shut down without getting the registration done with SWD.
But very often i have experienced in many government offices , officials going out of their way to help me once I tell them what and how we do towards the homeless street people in Goa .
So we make endless trips to the Department of Planning and Statistics, Porvorim and Mrs Maggi & her team are very co operative and explain the procedure which is quite time consuming but possible.
There is a certain form to be filled of these homeless people and has to be certified by Gazetted officer.
We are grateful to Dr Roshan from Primary Health Centre, Candolim , who visits our home in Calangute and certifies on the form regarding these 6 homeless street women.
The form need to be filled accurately and three times we made mistakes and had to go back to Dr Roshan to get his signature which he obliged.
Today, the department of planning and statistics visited our home in Calangute and conducted a drive to enroll the six homeless women for an Aadhar card of which three are goans .
We still have 85 + homeless people in our homes who require to get identity in the form of Aadhar card
If there are any gazetted officers in Goa you can support us by signing on this forms please let me know so that we can give this homeless people an identity.
Each gazetted officer can sign 10 or 12 forms, no need to sign all 85 at one time.
For us @ Street Providence , it treating and caring for the homeless just like they are our own home people.
Yes at times we get tiring and stressful as many are just dumped by their loved ones or by their former employees .
But after a little scrubbing, denting , polishing, painting these once upon a time condemned people are a bright light both in their lives and in the lives of others.
Once again please come forward and help us incase you are :
☆ An MLA
☆ A GAZETTED OFFICER Group A
☆ A GAZETTED OFFICER Group B
☆ A SARPANCH or A COUNCILOR
☆ A HEAD OF A RECOGNISED
☆ EDUCATIONAL Institute .
We require your signature after you visit our homes and see the homeless people with your eyes .
As usal all communication through WhatsApp messages only on 8380097564.
God bless you for helping me .

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

8.3.2021 9am IST
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY is a day of solidarity for us all to celebrate the achievements of women.
Its also a day to reflect upon the issues woman face in this world.
I share about homeless street woman who at times are also suffering from various types of disabilities
For me this day acts as an opportunity to reflect and admire on the patience, strength and resilience of the caregivers in our women's Shelter Home .
Homelessness is depressing.
Our caregiver Sr Diana, looks after these homeless Street women rescued by Street Providence .
75% of these women suffer from mental ill health – depression, schizophrenia, anxiety , mood disorders etc..
A normal day in the Shelter Home involves ensuring :
☆ they have all 3 meals,
☆ regular medication,
☆ daily bath,
☆ exercise and outdoor walks,
☆ motivational talk to encourage good
☆ behaviour……the list is never ending.
A mood disorder in one inmate, can turn a very peaceful morning into a hectic one with Sr Diana , doing all she can to calm her down through talk theraphy and medication.
▪︎ ( Note : the women in the picture are from the streets , abandoned, totally on medication and require constant monitoring on a daily basis.

Non are fit to work in any private homes as maids . So please no requests.)
On Women's Day today, we at SP, salute the FMCK sisters for caring for our women inmates and thank Sr Fatima and Sr Vandana.
Infact FMCK congregation has given these homeless woman a beautiful home to shelter these once young and able bodied women.
Difficult to explain, but on 1 hand you have FMCK nuns giving you care givers and a beautiful fully loaded home practically free of cost to be used to house homeless street women .
On the other hand , a similar congregation who once believed me and worked and supported me , shut down a home big enough to house more than 300 such homeless people.
FMCK congregation has been doing a wonderful service in the field of homelessness concerning woman who are on the streets.
.
Its will close to 3 years, that FMCK nuns provide woman power through their nuns who volunteer as caregivers to look after homeless street woman rescued and picked up by us in their home .
A difficult and complicated service.
We have had our share of ups & downs, agreements & disagreements, but the very fact its 3 years and counting makes this woman day special.
If not for supportt from the Local Provincial, Sr Vandana , this service would not have been running 3 years till date .
Many times its difficult for a congregation to work with a lay organisation and that too where the services are full time and in house 24×7.
But with Sr Vandana its always made easy as she too understands homelessness suffered by woman on the streets.
We tried to spread this service of addressing homelessness faced by street women to other congregations, but met with failure as serving the homeless street woman is not an easy service / apostolate.
Most of the woman in our homes are on medication but what stands out is that in this home the woman today are able to do their own chores under the supervision of Sr Diana and they now can understand and realise that they are much safer in a home rather than on the street .
Our Physiatrist Doctot plays his part by visiting this women home often and advising Sr Diana on medication issues .
♡♡ I thank God for FMCK congregation who also have included homelessness in their apostolate.
To all our :
♡ Women trustees,
♡ Women volunteers – both past and present,
♡ Woman benefactors
♡ Woman caregivers – past and present,
♡ Nuns who collaborated with us – past & present ,
♡ Nurses – who worked with us in the past.
♡♡ We @ Street Providence, wish you a Happy Womans day today. ♡♡
As a woman please try to address the serious issue of :
homeless woman on the streets, abandoned in hospitals,
woman who are begging for food ,
etc.
God bless you all

ADMITS THIS 78 YEAR OLD MAN NEIL NEWTON INTO OUR HOME

6.3.2021 8pm IST
STREET PROVIDENCE TRUST GOA admits this 78 year old man Neil Newton into our home today.
For the last 10 days approx Neil Newton has been on the streets of south Goa desperate to get into a home .
Hungry , lost , frustrated and tired is what I can conclude.
4.3.2021 , 9 pm , Cpt Venzy Viegas , spots him at Navelim as shown in the attached video and calls me .
Since it's a bit far and a bit late , I assure Cpt Venzy that 5th morning we will surely get him into our home, inspite of writing 2 days back we are completely full and not accepting anyone.
But Neil is 78 years , tired and frustrated.
5th morning John Baptist our food bank volunteer from Margao, searches for Neil in Navelim but not to be found.
The SSVP members from NAVELIM church too try to search Neil but no result.
Today 1.30pm , I get a call from a lady from COMBA, Margao, requesting for help .
Described Neil to me .
I call John & Cpt Venzy and within 30 min , John located Neil .
Thanks to that lady , she runs a parlour in COMBA .
When I was small I was taught , that we need to save the homeless from the darkness.
Here I and my team are saving the homeless daily .
Margao police did their part and with 3.30pm , Neil is in our home .
Looks like he needs to sleep for the next 3 to 4 days.
Neil is fatigued, tired, rejected and shaken and slight infection of SCABBIES.
For many days he was searching for help to get off the streets.
And Neil is not the only one in south Goa looking for help.
I am aware that about 25 to 30 such men are desperate for help.
But this is only going to get worse as summer peaks and monsoon starts.
How many homeless can still be saved from a cruel summer and a stormy monsoon ahead ?
But where is the home?
Moment I get a call to rehab a homeless, I am not at peace till help is provided to that person on the streets.
We are daily trying to do our part by picking up continously homeless street people on case to case basis.
But without a big big home its next to impossible.
Today, we are one way happy that Street Providence is recognized across Goa for rehabilitating homeless people.
But on the other way we are heart broken that many requests to house homeless mem are turned down due to this big big home being shut down.
A home which could have easily accommodated all the homeless in entire South Goa .
And when I refuse to rehabilitate the caller gets offended.

TWO HOMELESS MEN, MR. PAWAL & MR. ARJUN GOT OFF THE STREETS OF MAPUSA LATE LAST NIGHT .

5.3.2021 5pm IST
Two homeless men, Mr Pawal & Mr Arjun, fully covered with Scabies, itching and in unclean nature, got off the streets of Mapusa late last night .
STREET PROVIDENCE TRUST, GOA has started a MOBILE CLINIC in the cities of Goa between 6pm to 9pm with a Doctor, a few days back attending to homeless people on the streets .
This is the result.
Last week Dr , was in Mapusa city at night and there were over 25 homeless men who were examined.
Of which these 2 men were found to be the weakest and required urgent rehabilitation was recommended by the Doctor.
Both are suffering from severe SCABBIES & highly malnourished and weak.
Attached a few pictures and a video👇 .
Since we are really over loaded and short of space it took us some time to organize a room for them.
Scabbies is highly contagious and spreads fast and can be cured only through complete isolation and with separate washrooms , room, etc and monitored medication.
We are always called to solve other people problems and here we are at 9 pm solving these 2 men problems.
Last night , our volunteer Napolean spotted them in a deteriorated situation and immediately plans were made to pick them up with Sapnesh.
With quick and effective response and support from Goa Police @ Mapusa police station, these 2 men were issued a NOC and being late, the Mapusa Police dropped them to our home past 10pm.
For which we are thankful to the Mapusa police station.
In the last 3 years of running the rehabilitation homes , we usually got such cases starting of peak summer .
But this year the issue has started mid february and like these 2 men there are another 8 of them with SCABBIES and itching , in the vicinity of Mapusa city .
Even if we give them the cream , there will be no use , as the cream needs to be applied for 12 hours , then bath, then change in clothes which is just not possible for such homeless men on streets.
Solution is rehabilation , but space is the issue.
Slowly , such men usually end up dead on the streets.
Once in this line , you can actually expereince & see pain and death when you are in touch with homeless street people especially the wounded and the old.
Its painful and hurting , but we require more homeless shelters who cares and understands such cases.
This is what happens when one is on the streets for many many reasons.
Surviving this itch and pain, leading to blood oozing out of the skin due to scratching, is drinking alcohol which is actually adulterated and chewing tobacco , which gives you a temporary high to forget the pain.
Ultimately one ends up losing both kidney and liver and more complications to the body.
6 months back we had taken off 2 such GOAN men on the verge of death with their entire bodies covered with SCABBIES and itching.
( Will upload them one of these days with their testimony )
Our caregivers did an awesome job and within 3 months they totally recovered and today both of them are care givers in our homes.
One studied 12th std, reads and writes fluent English and today administers prescribed medicine to the other sick men in the home.
This is how our system is built upon .
We take in the most weakest, with the most complicated health issues from the streets and work on them .
Once recovered they automatically understand that they need to look after the next set which comes in.
Now since the Doctor visits the home every week at night , the results are even quicker and faster .
But there are frustrating moments at times as there are many trips to hospitals, doctors for something out of the way , medication and even hospitalization.
But we @ Street Providence , strive to give a hand to those on their last leg.
Imagine the coming summer heat which is surely going to be intense and followed by rainful monsoon.
Where are these homeless men going to go ?
New life and life in abundance is what we all at Street Providence strive for towards all the homeless people in our homes.
