HELP US TO PROVIDE DRY RATION TO THE CHILDREN & FAMILIES IN MANIPUR

7.7.2024. 8pm IST
Help us to provide dry ration to the children & families in Manipur.
It's over a year, Street Providence started working in Manipur in the aftermath of the violence which erupted.
Right from June 23 – March 24 , WE :
☆ 1. Sent , 4 trucks , ( 32 feet each ) of relief material from Goa to Churachandpur via Mizoram.
☆ 2. We bought alot of relief material in & around Assam & Nagaland and delivered into Imphal & Kangpokpi.
☆ 3. Sent Our team to Manipur on 6 trips
☆ 4. Purchased huge qty of medicines from Delhi and sent it to Churachandpur & Kangpokpi via Assam & Nagaland.
☆ 5. Adopted 110 school children and arranged their school fees.
☆ 6. Started our 1st shelter for poor homeless men with disabilities in Imphal
☆ 7. Even have a small registered office In Manipur for all our relief & rehabilitation services that we provide along with The Archdiocese of Imphal.
And we undertook so many under small projects.
All this was possible due to generous benefactors from Goa , India & across the globe.
We are now keen to start a women shelter home for ladies with mental disabilities in Churachandpur district.
For men we have a home in Imphal .
We are being requested to consider starting homes in more districts as there Is a considerable no of people suffering from high anxiety and stress which can lead to mental disabilities in due course of time.
We are also aware that the economic situation is not improving and the poor are left to fend for themselves to sustain their livelihood.
Last month there was a massive hailstorm leaving a couple of thousand  homes damaged.
In June 24 , we received an SOS , from a boarding school in Singat asking for dry ration for as many as 75 + boys which we arranged through a benefactor BRIAN by purchasing in Churachandpur itself.
Attached a small link of this dry ration donated to the school.
This is the same school which did not have electricity during Oct 23,  when our team visited this area.
And this was the same BRIAN who donated funds to fix their lighting system.
Imagine the school had 500 children at that point of time, + 250 – 300 people in the school premises as refugees and absolutely no electricity for hours togther.
Infact electricity was only in the day with just a few bulbs in the school and two bulbs in the camps as the electricity capacity was for 200 children but the total capacity of people was 800+ at times.
At night the children would study with candles and mobile light.
Today BRIAN has committed dry ration for 6 months and counting.
Another leading restaurant chain in Goa has committed dry ration for another school for initially 3 months which will be purchased in Churachandpur itself.
We are asking for donations to provide dry ration like Rice , Dhal , edible oil , Atta , Salt.
School system is alot different as compared to Goa namely:
》1. No mid day meal is provided like in Goa.
》2. Education is not free , all have to pay fees.
》3. Economy is down so parents are unable to do much.
》4. Most schools also double up as boarding as that's the only way to keep the children secure & encourages them to study & in the boarding it's safe.
》5. Schools & relief camps will be at times within the same complex.
It's all complicated for the poor and for those poor little children who have to study to go ahead in life.
We are not sending this year any trucks from Goa as its too stressful & we got many other projects coming up in Goa & Maharashtra.
Incase you are having a function then please think about these poor children across different schools in Manipur who have seen alot of troubled days last 1 year and put aside a little from this function.
I am not here to discuss politics or anything related to politics.
We are here as relief workers and you can also play a part just like you played last year.
One can pay the supplier directly ( tax exemption not possible) or donate to our NGO & we will pay the supplier (tax exemption provided under 80G).
Whatever may be the donation it should be monthly as it easier for us to manage & its easier for the donor to plan the donation.
If you feel the pinch in Goa due to the inflation & complain then just stop for 30 seconds.
In Manipur , especially in the hills , everything is much more costly  than what you and I find expensive in Goa.
Your support in these difficult times to the children in Manipur will surely fetch you & your family peace of mind as well as spiritual blessings.

DIAPERS BANK @ STREET PROVIDENCE, GOA, DISTRIBUTED 400 + ADULT DIAPERS PKTS BETWEEN 1.4.24 TO 30.6.24 , TO POOR PEOPLE IN GOVERNMENT HOSPITALS

5.7.2024. 10 pm IST
DIAPERS BANK @ STREET PROVIDENCE, GOA, distributed 400 + Adult diapers pkts = 4000 pcs,
( 10 pcs / pkt ) between 1.4.24 to 30.6.24 , to poor people in Government hospitals.
I have been taking poor patients to different  government hospitals over the last 7 years  ie
PHC / UHC / DISTRICT HOSPITAL & GMC & it's visible how people suffer especially when facing poverty.
Diaper Bank was conceptualized with this aim to bring a little relief to poor patients who feel the pinch of buying diapers.
We identify the most poor & needy patients in specific wards and give 5 Pcs of diapers to such patients.
No pictures & no video.
We have a full time staff employed who every morning visits the poorest of the poor & concludes who requires diapers for that day .
By 4pm in the evening, our car drops these adult diapers packets to our staff who then takes about 90 minutes to go around distributing these diapers.
All details are listed Down for the day by the staff which includes:
☆ Name of the patient
☆ Bed no
☆ Ward no
☆ Address
☆ Type of sickness
Parallelly surprise checks are done to ascertain which patient has got the diapers for the day.
We keep these 5 Pcs of diapers on the bed of the patient but a record of the daily diapers distribution is also handed over to the nurses.
You too can donate your unused diapers to our DIAPER BANK.
Or you can donate to our bank account any amount you wish, especially on your special functions like birthdays/ anniversaries/ etc.
The blessings that these poor people give spiritually is worth more than one can expect.
Remember functions are only for the near & dear ones.
Some reduction on your function towards diapers goes to those who you never know or who you will never meet.
Even I will never ever know who are all these patients who our staff has distributed these 400+ pkts in the last 3 months.
But I know it is reaching the poorest of the poor as these poor patients sometimes message or WhatsApp me to say thanks.
Each packet costs between rs 275 – Rs 300.
It's not much but to those poor patients it's a saving on the day they receive these 5 pcs of Diapers.

CALL IT DESTINY OR ANYTHING YOU WISH. ONLY ADULT CHILD IS SUFFERING FROM SEVERE MENTAL DISABILITIES.

25.1.2024. 7pm IST
Call it destiny or anything you wish.
Bed ridden goan father ,
Mother expired ( goan )
Only adult child is suffering from severe mental disabilities.
No one to take care as a result roams endlessly on the streets , shouting and abusing as well as throwing stones or hitting passerby.
Then gets a hammering, gets insulted and mocked, may be even slapped or abused.
And we are talking about a Goan girl aged 32 years who we admitted recently into our home.
Presently her father's sister ( aunt ) is standing in for her but it won't be Long as aunt children have migrated and very soon either Aunt will migrate or give up on her as aunt too will grow old.
Another LIFE LONG admission & again I have to be responsible for her as long as she lives, as father will not ever able to look after her due to he being bed ridden.
If this goan girl is not kept in a shelter home might end up on the streets and become uncontrollable leading to her becoming a vagabond and ultimately might get used or even commit suicide due to the stress and disappointment of being unsound.
Mental disabilities is getting bad to worse and we all need to work together especially where our poor own Goans are suffering due to poverty.
We are daily flooded with requests to take in so many poor goans either on the streets or suffering from mental disabilities and having no one to provide care at home.
Coming Feb 24 end our 11th shelter home will be innaugrated in Goa and by December 2024 we should have 18 – 20 shelter homes in Goa with a bed capacity of 360 to 400 only for those suffering from mental disabilities.
That's the magnitude of this problem and we are working on a war footing to face this problem.
Your support is what we ask either through your prayers, wishes, donations , etc
In a few days from now , we take in a one of the most complicated cases I ever handled in the last 6 years – goan poor lady amputated in both legs, wheel chair bound and suffering from mental disabilities.

STREET PROVIDENCE GOA, THANKS SHRI SUBHASH CHANDRA ( IAS ) SECRETARY SOCIAL WELFARE DEPT, GOVERNMENT OF GOA WHO HAS BROUGHT CHEER AND LIGHT TO OUR MEN’S SHELTER HOMES

8.2.2024. 9pm IST
An IAS officer who understands poor goan and homeless people suffering from mental disabilities and who has the heart to hear their cries and do what is most required.
STREET PROVIDENCE GOA, Thanks Shri Subhash Chandra ( IAS ) Secretary Social Welfare dept, Government of Goa who has  brought cheer and light to our men's shelter homes by approving schemes and grants for the homeless goans in Goa inspite of these goans not having valid identification for the grants to be released to our Homes.
Most of the homeless who we take in are ethnic Goans both ladies & gents who are suffering from mental disabilities and for reasons best known to them are actually having no identity in their possession.
But all of them are patients of IPHB with some of them having registration nos as 16000 to 25000 which means they are patients of IPHB last 25 to 30 years.
Usually Goa Police finds such psychiatric patients on the streets and admitt them in our homes.
Some are recommended by the Local MLA , Local Sarpanch as they are a disturbance in the society.
To avail of any Government grant under Social Welfare ie
》for the individual with disabilities or
》for the shelter homes,
the documents required are Adhar card and disability certificate.
Last 6 months our application for running camps in our shelter homes to make the adhar cards for our inmates is pending at The Planning & Statistics Dept, Porvorim.
Only after the Adhar card Is generated then we can apply for the Disability certificate which is another 2 to 3 years.
We have been providing FREE REHABILITATION to so many poor ethnic goans in our men's homes last 6 years without much grants to these men.
Why ?  Because no identity no grants.
We have been having major issues at IPHB in acquiring disability certificates to avail of grants.
But 8 months back, Mr Ajit Panchwadkar took over as The Director of Social Welfare dept and alot of changes has happened especially towards the poor goans suffering from disabilities and on the streets.
We have a home at Assnora for men funded under Jeevan Jyot covering 10 men with disabilites @ Rs 2500 per month and we had managed to acquire their documents after many many years of running around .
We put in another file for our Cavelossim men's home under the same state Scheme called ” Jeevan Jyot “, which is for 10 inmates only @ Rs 2500 per inmate per month.
Nothing big and fancy but atleast something better than nothing.
We submitted the file of 10 men with disabilites without any identification but added valid IPHB prescription for over two years of each individual.
Director was a bit apprehensive whether it will clear the committee for approval.
I explained to Ajit Sir, told him, let me know who and which point this file is rejected.
Rest I will take care and manage , but please accept the file, which the department did.
File accepted, cleared the rounds and approved.
To our blessings , The Secretary has signed the order and that paves the way for running such shelter homes inspite of the inmates not having valid identification.
In another move towards poor Goans with disabilities staying in our shelter homes having no valid identification but only valid IPHB prescriptions ” The Hon Chief Minister of Goa ” has clearly instructed The Social Welfare Minister of Goa , to provide DDSSY benefits to all our GOAN inmates only with A valid IPHB prescription.
All these facts can be verified from all the above names I have mentioned in this post.
” THE LAST POOR GOAN suffering from disabilities MATTERS TO the  GOVERNMENT “.
We are happy that after a very long time a Dynamic , hardworking & down to earth Director, Shri Ajit Panchwadkar is heading the Social Welfare dept and our poor goans suffering from disabilities are getting some benefit from this government.
The hardworking Trio @ Social Welfare of :
♡♡ Minister : Shri Subash Phal Dessai ,
♡♡ Secretary : Shri Subash Chandra &
♡♡ Director : Shri Ajit Panchwadkar,
are indeed a booster dose to all the problems that we were facing once a upon a time in our men's shelter homes.
Today our NGO has grants from Social Welfare Dept for :
☆ 2 Physiotherapy units &
☆ 2 Jeevan Jyot homes ( 10 men per home @ 2500 per month)
all approved by The Social Welfare Secretary
Mr Subhash Chandra who I only met once may be 2 years back in his office and that meeting to I was very upset & aggressive as nothing was ever moving in Social Welfare towards our NGO.
Usually IAS  officers don't entertain requests for grants from NGOs that easily and they try to waste time and create unnecessary hurdles and paperwork so that NGOs get frustrated and go away .
Shri Subash Chandra ( IAS ) , Secretary, Social Welfare dept , Government of Goa, has shattered that way of working and today we feel blessed that some one in the Secretariat is concerned about Our poor goans on the streets suffering from mental disabilities.
I hope Hon Minister of Social Welfare, Shri Subash Phal Dessai and Director Shri Ajit Panchwadkar keep approving our continous new proposals towards the Welfare of our poor goans on the streets suffering from mental disabilities.
Our inmates capacity is increasing from 240 to 500 and that means more resources and more grants need to be given to us.
WE WORK HARD
WE FIGHT LOUD
WE EXPECT TO BE GIVEN OUR DUES
Street Providence is continuously working towards ending Hunger and Homelessness in Goa and only with The Government support we can carry forward.
I hope the way The Social Welfare dept works, right from the Minister to the Secretary to the Director will be emulated by other Government departments so that ” THE LAST POOR GOAN suffering from disabilities MATTERS TO the  GOVERNMENT “
Otherwise I will hit the streets and highlight the injustice and services denied to The poor goans suffering from mental disabilities and the Homeless.

ONCE A RAG PICKER NOW ALL CROCHET DESIGNER

15.2.2024. 11am IST
Once a Rag picker now a CROCHET designer.
As I begin 40 days of LENT, I am not going to fast but going to attempt to take into our shelter homes, atleast 40 homeless & poor goans suffering from mental disabilities.
Simultaneously we also will bring out the best we can in the lives of these 60 ladies who we currently are rehabilitating in our homes.
And today we highlight this goan lady :
》Poor & suffering from complicated disabilities ,
》lived for two years as a rag picker in margao,
》Lost her mind,
》Stayed in government hospitals for months,
》Highly diabetic living on the streets,
》Lost and losing both her legs are amputated,
》Foul & dirty language as she is disappointed,

Even the biggest home in Goa just could not keep her so we took her in.
And to top it all ” WHOLESALE  CARELESS DEPARTMENT ( WCD ) ” , is paying us through grants Rs 2500 per month per lady to look after and care for poor Goan uneducated ladies suffering from both mental & physical disabilities.
Recently a SOS call from a Pilar priest ( SFX )  with fervent appeal made us accept this lady.
Stubborn and destructive because she knows she is diabetic and has parts of both her feet cut off due to high diabetes.
The day of admission was difficult as she refused to get off our ambulance for over two hours with all the abuses and shouting which created a huge embarrassing situation in the shelter home neighborhood.
I was called to intervene as the team was hitting a dead end.
She kept speaking about the devil , the evil , the dark life which I assume had overtaken her mind.
She being a catholic I only told her ” Jesus needs you ” and pretend that I was not aware of the negative issues she was talking.
Slowly she subsided with some lollipops and we got her out of the Ambulance, pounced on her and lifted her into the shelter home where I told her ” you can shout whole night, till you get tired”.
Belive me,  the feeling of the shelter home, the fellow inmates, the care givers and the elderly nun got her to quiet down all within 1 hour flat.
Everyday OUR JEEP  takes her to the District Hospital Mapusa for dressings as she was living in this hospital for many months and they know her case .
Each trip to the hospital is nothing less than
Rs 500 plus a driver and a care giver accompanies her, and that too is a cost.
WHOLESALE CARELESS DEPARTMENT ( WCD ) should understand that Rs 2500 grant per month is just not enough.
The officials at WHOLESALE CARELESS DEPARTMENT should think that if this lady was their mother, sister, niece, aunty, relative or if they one day were like her in our shelter Home as an inmate, how would they feel.
She is good at CROCHET and whole day sits quietly and does all this beautiful stuff but has a terrible loose tongue.
Never did she know that she has a talent In her which Is CROCHET and never was she encouraged to make her living by doing CROCHET.
All we did was stand by her and tell her sternly
” either go ahead in life or suffer, choice is yours”.
This poor lady with both her feet amputated and suffering from severe mental disabilities is encouraged to forget her past and is reassured that WE CARE FOR HER & her past is not our concern.
Imagine this lady as a rag picker for years and we as goans surely called her GHANTI but today using her talent which no one would ever imagine she had.
We have to buy wool , needles, knitting tools daily to keep so many ladies totally occupied else they will keep thinking in space and not come out of their mental disabilities.
Everything costs money nothing is cheap and Free , especially health care and medication.
Inspite of WHOLESALE CARELESS DEPARTMENT inhumane approach to our issues,  yet I do the best I can to take in anyone who is in need of a helping hand into our homes.
I don't see their medical condition at the time of their admission but I always VISUALIZE how I want them to be in THE FUTURE in a few days after their admission.
We have poor goans as well as homeless with Disabilities from all religions ie Cathlolics , Hindus and Muslims.
My disappointment with WHOLESALE CARELESS DEPARTMENT is never taken out on such poor suffering ladies who come with all types of sickness and disabilities.
My fight with WHOLESALE CARELESS DEPARTMENT is justified as I am doing The State a service when the department has failed to address such issues.
Budgets go back unutilized and the poor goan ladies suffer as WHOLESALE CARELESS DEPARTMENT officials are busy doing all their personal work during office time.
We will attempt to do the best we can inspite of the uncooperative nature from this all women department which is actually meant to work for the welfare of such women.
During LENT you can work and support such poor homeless abandoned goan women suffering from mental disabilities by adopting one such Goan lady for the year.

POOR GOAN HOMELESS CHILDLESS MIDDLE AGED WIDOW ABANDONED BY HER OWN MOTHER & FAMILY MEMBERS

28.5.24. 8pm IST
Poor goan homeless childless middle aged widow abandoned by her own mother & family members, suffering from mental disabilities as well as blood related sickness ” BONE MARROW” ,  is need of Help.
4 months back we had highlighted her plight assuming her mother & family would atleast pay for her medical expenses but no one is bothered.
Link attached
Mrs Ester is from SANCOALE and was & has been homeless for years due to issues which I can't get into.
Approx 2 years back brought by Fatorda Police to our home.
We tried & the police also tried to get her mother to take her home but no success.
Ester is dying a slow death as she needs blood transfusion often.
Her skin is totally white and too many other medical issues including mental disabilities being abandoned or rather unwanted by family.
Most of her parameters are beyond imagination.
Has stayed in many homes in Goa and sorry to say no one wants to keep her again.
I and she keep disagreeing , she leaves our home, sleeps on streets and bus stops , gives my no which she has by hearted, police call us and we take her back.
And this has happened quite a no of times in the last 2 years.
My shelter home doors are always open to such people but they have to follow rules and regulations.
In ESTER case she is not easy to handle and our care givers just can't manage her.
Twice we have stabilised her and each time it costed us more than Rs 1 lac as she requires an attendant full time In the hospital which charges are anything between Rs 2000 to Rs 3000 per 24 hours & her treatment takes 15 to 21 to even 30 days in hospitals.
Due to all medical complications ESTER has turned rude, arrogant, low self esteem, doubts all, stressed , no motivation, COMPLICATED.
Just now again she needs blood transfusion & is in a Government hospital.
Hospital is asking us to keep an attendant which we can't afford plus wants us to sign documents which we can't take the risk as she has a mother living & tomorrow something goes wrong NGO will be blamed.
As of today we have put down in just 2 years more than Rs 2.5 lacs on her upkeep thru donations.
Practically every 2 – 3  months she requires a blood transfusion & hospitalization which compulsory includes a full time attendant with her during her stay in the hospital.
Currently we are in a midst of a slow down in the form of donations and sky rocketing price rise in all sectors is pushing us against the wall.
Today  we have 6 ladies & 3 men from our homes admitted in various hospitals and if we have to spend money in thousands if not lacs then where & how do we pay these bills.
Fancy slogans, International women day , this day and that day is only for social media likes and comments.
Ground reality for the poorest of the poor is something else.
Infact one district hospital where she was admitted could not do the blood transfusion due to non availability of blood and transfered her to another government hospital.
How do we manage such huge medical costs for so many poor goan people?
Where do such poor goan people go ?
In ESTER case it's only going to get worse every month as she wants her mother but does her mother understand that ?
And belive me her mother is a very rich lady.
I too feel her pain and I too understand her difficulty but at the end of the day all government departments are not taking much interest in the welfare of such poor goan widows who are genuinely homeless & abandoned.

STREET PROVIDENCE GOA REQUESTS HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO PROVIDE BETTER FACILITIES TO THE POOR GOAN HOMELESS AS THEY ARE VOICELESS

21.6.24. 7pm IST
70 years Old goan homeless man, weighing just 30 kgs weight, very low BP & a Hernia as big as a peeled coconut, is just being denied basic medical facilities in hospitals last 2 months.
Street Providence Goa requests Health Department to provide better facilities to the poor goan homeless as they are voiceless and we are really overburdened in daily running around different hospitals at times with different patients.
Please go thru our face book page ” Street Providence ” and understand daily how many trips we are making to hospitals with patients.
We will be highlighting next few days how the poor and homeless goans primarily are just not given medical treatment and attention on time.
☆ Case 1
Mr Santan elderly goan senior citizen found by the Sanguem Mamlatdar in Sanguem April 24
Admitted by Goa Police after local Health centre scribbled on a paper ” fit to be admitted into a shelter home “.
Did they examine & report he has Hernia which is the Size of a peeled coconut ? NO
Did they examine all his parameters and keep him for observation for atleast for 48 hours on a drip as he was totally exhausted? NO
Now how are we are without Government funds going to deal with such a serious matter.
We tried getting help at :
☆ District hospital Margao,
☆ Gmc
☆ District hospital Mapusa.
Everywhere it's just excuses and excuses with each Doctor saying he does not need surgery.
Every report at a hospital contradicts the previous doctor.
One can imagine his pain in this old age and with the stress of he being abandoned as no one has come forward to lodge a missing report neither is he saying anything of his family.
We have attached a synopsis of how he is being shuttled up and down between all Government hospitals.
See how many times we have admitted & discharged him but nothing is working in his favour.
This is sad & disappointing for Santan and for us.
All his parameters are going haywire.
Like Santan there are about 50 such serious cases of poor homeless psychiatric goans going through the same disappointing procedures.
Because of lack of medical support from the hospitals we have stopped taking homeless last 2 months as each and every case referred for admission is not treated with dignity in hospitals and we can't take this stress any more.
Plenty of homeless poor goans suffering from mental disabilities & other sickness on the streets and in hospitals.
No one cares and no one is bothered.
If Santan has to be treated and delivered of his pain then he has to be admitted into a good private hospital with the costs going upto
Rs 2 lacs which we are unable to bear as there are multiple parameters to be controlled before and after the operation.
We are completely frustrated, stressed & disappointed at how Santan condition is getting bad to worse .
It's like seeing death in front of you and we just can't do anything.

FOOD BANK SANGOLDA COLLECTS 6000 kgs/6 TONNES OF EXTRA COOKED CANTEEN FOOD FOR THE MONTH OF 6June 24 FROM 7 FACTORIES SITUATED IN VERNA INDUSTRIAL ESTATE

2.7.24. 8pm. IST
FOOD BANK SANGOLDA collects 6000 kgs/6 tonnes of extra cooked canteen food for the month of June 24 from 7 factories situated in Verna Industrial Estate, which enabled us to feed 18000 meals across Goa.
An initiative, supported by The Department of Inspectorate of Factories and Boilers, Government of Goa , Altinho Goa is slowly reducing wet waste and bringing food on the plate to the poorest of the poor.
In the last 3 months we have collected this :
☆ April 24 – 5 Factories  – 5000 kgs / 5 tons / month
☆ May 24  – 6 Factories – 5000 kgs / 5 tons / month
☆ June 24 – 7 Factories – 6000 kgs / 6 tons / month
Target by DEC 24 – 20000 kgs / 20 tons , enough to feed 60000 meals a month.
50 % of the food goes to our shelter homes both in North & South Goa.
10 % of the food goes to other homes
40% of the food goes to the poor families who may be daily wage workers, sanitation workers, etc.
Our 7 collaboraters who have come forward to support the hungry & poor are :
☆ Commscope
☆ Micro labs
☆ IFB
☆ Siemens
☆ Marksons
☆ Lupin
☆ Sanofi.
Coming month of July 24 , we are adding two more companies in Verna Industrial Estate to the existing 7 companies who will provide their extra canteen food to our food bank which will enable our collection to reach approx 8000 kgs of food enough to feed up to 24000 meals in July 24.
Not an easy task as these are really big factories and it's a very systematic and careful planned operation we run at these 7 factories picking up this food.
With 2 hours flat , our frozen food truck visits all these 7 factories and picks up this food.
90% of of this food collected from these 7 factories , is collected in food grade reusable plastic see thru boxes as a result we don't use much plastic bags for food collection.
Just like the 7 factories are reducing the wet waste by donating their food , we too as a food bank are reducing plastic by collecting food in reusable containers.
It's a unique concept across India started in Goa where by factories have allowed our small NGO to install our  fridges in their factories and willingly donate their extra food to a cause of ending Hunger and homelessness in Goa.
With inflation continously on the rise, this fresh cooked food is a big boost to our shelter homes as well as the poor families who depend on this food daily.
We feel happy that Chief Inspector of Factories and Boilers, Sir Pangam has understood the meaning of hunger and food wastage and is requesting factories to donate their canteen food to a worthy cause.
I wish more Officers / Directors of various Government departments in Goa, act like
Sir Pangam and think out of the box, when sitting in their air-conditioned office, to help the poor & needy.

79 YEARS OLD HOMELESS MAN HAS BEEN REFERRED BY THE GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL TO BE TREATED IN A PRIVATE HOSPITAL FOR A STENT

2.7.24. 9pm.  IST
☆ Case 2 @ Street Providence Goa.
79 years old Elderly homeless man Mr Leuin Marquis has been referred by The Government hospital to be treated in a private hospital for a stent which is only done in 2 hospitals In Goa but privately.
Operation costs on a higher side Rs 50000.
We have been providing shelter to Mr Leuin right from Covid time when we picked him up from the streets of Navelim.
Old, feeble , quite by nature but having multiple health issues as he has been living on the streets of Mumbai, Goa , Kochin for over a decade.
We have been taking him to Government hospitals whenever he is unwell but after doing multiple tests and check ups , he has been advised to do the Stent replacement privately.
Now put yourself in my place.
And just understand the frustrations & headache I go through with such homeless people who we have.
We can just ignore the recommendations and let him live with the pain or we can treat him privately.
Happy Father's Day was just a few days back.
What is there in store for this elderly man who might be an abandoned father ?
This is the 2nd case where we are looking at treating a homeless person privately.
Case 1 was Santan who had a Hernia as big as a peeled coconut, and on 23rd June, we admitted Santan into Victor Hospital Margao.
Homeless are not easy to manage as they carry along of sickness including psychiatric disabilities.
I an reaching a cross road where I am unsure whether to take in old and sick homeless people with complicated health issues or only take in the young homeless  people with mild health issues.
Like Case 1 & case 2, our Homes have many more such cases where we are continously running around in different government hospitals fog treatment which at times is just nerve wrecking.
See the no of homeless increasing in all cities of Goa and also there are homeless in Government hospitals.
We have stopped taking last 2 months as there is no government support from hospitals.
If the NGO is going to do what the authorities are suppose to do then Authorities need to fund the NGO at today inflation rate and not at the rate when calculated last in 2007.
For men we are given a grant of Rs 2500 per man/ per month for just one home that too for 10 men of that one home.
For women it's been calculated and given for
50 women @ Rs 2500 some women & Rs 4500 some women, in our 5 homes.
It's a total stress to raise resources / donations everytime through social media.
People think ” NGO is always asking for donations ” .
But this is the reality – we are caring for alot of poor goan homeless senior citizens suffering from multiple sickness including mental disabilities having absolutely no one to fall back on.
Health Department, Social Welfare, Women & Child, EMPOWERMENT for Persons with Disabilities Department, are all in relaxed mode where the poor goans on the streets are concerned.
No one is understanding from the above departments that homeless are on the streets due to genuine reasons and it's the government duty to help them through shelter homes.

WE REPATRIATE TODAY, A VERY YOUNG N.E. GIRL FROM GOA, BY FLIGHT, TO THE FURTHER MOST STATE IN INDIA WHICH IS APPROX 4000+ kms ONE WAY

28.6.24. 7pm IST
STREET PROVIDENCE GOA, repatriate today, a very young N.E. girl from GOA,  by FLIGHT, to the furthermost state in India which is approcx 4000+ kms one way.
Imagine you get a call at 11.30 pm from the cops saying we need your help & it's complicated.
Exactly 1 year back, a LPSI called saying there Is this very tired, extremely young girl from NE, homeless & abandoned please help.
This young girl was in a situation which no young girl should ever ever be in or should ever  experience.
She traveled by train for many days from one end of INDIA in a very sad state of affairs.
We were scared and yet it was a rainy night anything could go wrong.
Slowly things fell in place, she settled down , she opened up , we contacted the single parent & we were now at peace.
The D day of solving the problem arrived & everything went well with The Grace of God.
All legal formalities completed by the Concerned authorities and the girl was totally fresh & relaxed
She took a challenging and bold decision which even surprised me.
For over 6 months she stayed back to help us as a sign of Thanksgiving for our support to her in the most difficult time of her life & we compensated her fairly, month after month.
She turned out to be a Good care giver and a very hard worker , with no short cuts & we could never ever complain.
The most difficult job that any care giver is expected to do towards a bedridden patient this young girl would undertake with a smile and do cheerfully.
When she expressed her desire to go & visit her single ailing parent we stood by her and bought her a flight ticket from Goa to her home state.
We felt if she travelled by train she might encounter issues which she might not be able to avoid .
The quickest train from Goa to her state is nothing less that 8 to 10 days & monsoon season is already progressing across India.
By flight it's just 12 hours v/s 8 – 10 days by train.
Thank God, that LPSI @ Goa Police called me & we were able to do the little we could to bring smile back on the face of the distraught young girl.
Many such instances in Goa usually don't get help or rather instead of helping these instances are exploited for Domestic help or just pushed into illegal trade.
We wish This young girl all the best in her future.
We feel satisfied to have stood by her and helped her during those stressful & complicated days she was going through.
You too can play such roles in reaching out to such poor abandoned and bringing that feeling of joy and happiness into their lives.
