STREET PROVIDENCE is all about TEAM WORK.
In this picture attached with this post you will see three IPS officers who understand words like homeless, disabilities, hunger , old aged, abandoned parents.
It's about what we all can do for society no matter how high ranking one is.
Of the three IPS officers :
☆ 1. We have a retired DIG, Sir Bosco George, Goa Police.
☆ 2. We have an ADC to Hon Governor of Goa, Sir Vishram Borkar, Goa Police.
☆ 3. We have an SP at Ratnagiri district , due for promotion very soon, Sir Dhananjay Kulkarni, Maharashtra Police.
◇ 1. Let's start with Sir Bosco & how we got connected.
During BG tenure as an SP @ Panjim may be in 2019 , he spotted an unclean man who needed rehabilitation and we got a call.
We responded quickly and got the man to our shelter home & immediately presented the issues of homeless on the streets to BG who took up this matter to his seniors and an SOP was created.
Relations were maintained and i assume BG shared my views that poor homeless people on the streets with disabilities too have a right to live a dignified life In a shelter home.
Whenever I met BG in his office one sentence was always spoken ” when I retire I would like to volunteer to serve the poor as in my last 35 years of service I have benefitted from the state and it's time to give back “.
31st Jan 2023 was the last day of BG at Goa Police and within a few days , we enrolled or rather BG joined in as a full time Volunteer specifically to handle government paper work for Our NGO.
◇ 2. Now let's go to Sir Vishram Borkar who has been ADC to Hon Governor of Goa and in the last 6+ years in Raj Bhavan he has worked with 4 Governors.
Thru our food bank we intended to put a fridge at Raj Bhavan to collect extra food and BG had spoken to Mr Borkar to see how best this can work out.
Due to security reasons, fridge was not permitted to be installed at Raj Bhavan but another wonderful opportunity arose.
Hon Governor of Goa ( I assume on the recommendation / consultation of his ADC
Mr Borkar ) offered to donate 100 fresh cooked meals every week from the Raj Bhavan to our homes which continued for over 2 years and due to the ongoing construction at Raj Bhavan , instead of cooked food , Hon Governor gives us dry ration every week last 9 months to prepare 100 meals.
Across all Raj Bhavans in India , this is the only Governor donating food to a FOOD BANK to feed the homeless people with disabilities in shelter homes.
◇ 3. Well now the 3rd IPS officer, Mr Kulkarni is a colleague of Sir Bosco George, may be from 2019 and now after BG retirement, is a colleague of Sir Vishram Borkar.
Sir Dhananjay Kulkarni has worked in Interpol and foreign missions and understands alot of hardships poor people go through.
As an SP of Ratnagiri district, Sir Kulkarni has huge issues at hand as this district is having Maharashtra 2nd biggest mental hospital / institute, but shelter homes for poor people with disabilities is a need of the hour especially for men.
Since we have homes now at Sawantwadi & Kankavali, it makes easier for us to expand into Ratnagiri as there is demand, as there is an institute to treat the poor with mental disabilities and an officer who has a heart to hear the cries of the poor people with mental disabilities.
Earlier this week we all were driven 250 kms one way by my good friend Mr Prakash from Saligao to Ratnagiri where we meet :
》The SP of Ratnagiri District,
》The Collector of Ratnagiri District &
》The MS of Ratnagiri mental hospital.
Police officials are the 1st line of contact to help the poor on the streets who majority are always suffering from mental disabilities.
My experience in Goa last 7 years of dealing with the Police as well as our IPHB ( Mental hospital at Bambolim) has been very good and satisfying & we will implement this formula across other districts in States where we start such homes for the poor people with mental disabilities.
For any shelter home caring for poor homeless people with mental disabilities to run successfully, only 2 departments are required :
Local police & local mental hospital.
Both these departments have to trust each other as Police bring people with disabilities from the streets and admitt.
But once stabilised, Police don't take them away as Police don't run shelter homes.
Institutes / mental hospitals don't want people with mental disabilities to live long time in their premises and that's where SHELTER HOMES like us come in.
One Gentleman named Sir Bosco George decided on retirement to work for the poor on the streets with mental disabilities and today we have a small team of kind hearted retired and retiring in the future IPS OFFICERS having a heart to do something for society in whatever little way possible.
Must add here Sir Arvind Gawas retd IPS too plays his part as we got connected to him at MOPA Airport through sir Bosco George as the recovery agency for lost and found items.
If you are a retired government official in Goa , Maharashtra, Karnataka, Jharkhand & Manipur and wish to give back to society especially towards poor people on the streets with mental disabilities then we have many opening & opportunities to use your experience & expertise in the field of your specialization.
We operate strictly through whatsapp messages only on 8380097564 so please avoid calling.
God bless you all
